This is a discussion on how bad / overrated Tool is.

Sorry, I didn't word that right. When I said classical composers I was referring to what the tc said, and he mentioned Mozart specifically along with classical composers- implying great classical composers. I did not mean comparing them to ANY classical composer.

Brilliance from a compositional standpoint. I'm sure it's possible, but I personally haven't seen any.

Here's reason why they're terrible.

- Their fanbase are a bunch of dicks trying to state how "smart" their music is.
- Most of the songs they do are repetitive and bland
- They're try to be different when they just come of as stupid.
- Anyone who relates them to any great artist (When I say this I mean calling them as brilliant as Mozart or any great clas sical or pretty much any great muscian's) should go jump of a cliff.
- When I hear them I generally want to fall asleep and/or kill myself.

i can't stand tool either. i dislike the sound of their music. but their militant fanbase irks me a lot more. apperently i don't really like music because i don't listen to tool...dissonantblack

1. Generalizations. I'm a fan, yet I'm no "dick" talking of how smart the music is.

2. Not true. Some may come off as such, but they aren't repetitive or bland for that matter.

Yeah, that is the thing that probably has kept me turned off of the band for the most part. They seem to drag on songs just to drag on songs because they are so stuck in this mindset that there is something deeper to longer, slower songs. It isn't like with Opeth where every second of their songs has a purpose.

Care to elaborate on why you think they are the most talented band ever?

I didn't even think of Pink Floyd, but yeah, there is a lot of pointless droning in their songs as well. A lot of bands do it, I guess, but not very many manage to find the line between having an interesting instrumental bit and something that's just plain excessive.DJ_Lae

Have you listened to Opeth? They have 10 minute songs that are great the whole way through and never feel as if they are droning on.

Song Remains the Same. Every song was expanded to 15+ mins lol. Odd, but it was all that other stuff they threw in (solos and such).

I definitely think the band is overrated and I have ran into too many rabid Tool fans...

I like a couple songs and I think I will give them another chance...

BTW any find it funny how the rabid Tool fans are conspiculously absent in this discussion after it being mentioned how arrogant they are? I know there are people on there who will fight like crazy that Tool is the greatest band ever....

I don't listen to the band because they are guilty by association. "What does that mean?" you may ask. I'll tell you boys and girls... Most Tool fans I have met (mostly on here) are absolutely arrogant, lording how their favorite band is the best thing since sliced bread. To me, that's enough reason to not listen to them. MattUD1

i'm actually a huge fan, i really like how the songs are long but don't get boring or dull, at least the good ones. maybe a little repetitive, but honestly their unique genre of music just suits me well. but to each his own, i guess.
