This is so sad, yet touching.

Reece Fleming was diagnosed with leukaemia back in 2004 when he was just 4 years old.

He battled the disease for years until this May, when doctors gave the 8 year old boy only a few weeks to live.

The family decided to try and help him achieve most of his goals before he would pass. And one of those was to marry his school sweetheart, Elleanor Purgslove.

Reece's mother said "When we found out that we only had a few weeks with him we tried to do absolutely everything with him that we could. Him and Ellie had been 'special friends' for a couple of years but then they broke up. We said we'd have a pirate party, and Ellie came. She went to visit Reece a few times in hospital as well."

Then during a recent laser tag party, Reece "proposed" to his little friend.

After she accepted, their parents arranged a pretend wedding at Reece's home (not the kids pictured above).

The families went out to dinner in the mayor's limousine and organized the wedding with rings and even a fictional certificate.

The kids got married on July 4th. And Reece told his mom, "I can go now," after his wedding wish had been fulfilled.

His mom added, "He was so proud of her, and we were proud of them both."

The following day after the wedding, Reece died at home with his family.

Ms Fleming added: "Even on the Saturday that he died, he got out of bed and walked to the sofa.

"He always tried walking, right to the end, so we thought if he walked for us then we would walk for him."

Very sad but cant help get a smile on my face. His dying dream was to get married with his school sweetheart,thats why I smile, Most kids would have wanted toys, trips, sports teams. But he wanted to get married. its just great knowing that even today in this chaotic state the world is in. The innocence of a child prevails this proves that maybe there is stil hope for kids now days.

I didn't feel much of anything... People die all the time... If I knew them personally I would've felt bad, but with so much tradegy involved in the lives of people I actually know/care for, there's no room to feel bad for people I've never met.

If that makes me cruel or heartless, so be it.

wow poor child... now what about the kids dieing in iraq because of a stupid war, or the millions dieing in africa of starvation and illness or the thousands in mexico living in slums and scraping together rock soup for dinner.

no, let's shed a tear for this single child who lived a short life full of happiness and comfort and completely neglect the millions that never had a chance to begin with. i just dont get it.

I'm dead serious when I say I have never been made to cry by any emotional response. Eye watering due to spicy food or contamination, sure. But no emotional response has caused be to cry.

Edit: Except when I was a kid. I probably cried then if I didn't get bottle or some such thing.

They didn't really get married, his parents just lied and told him that he got married. There's no law against lying to your kids.

That didn't even spark an emotional response from me. Oh well. It's not even a sad story. It has a happy ending. He died happy instead of of suffering for the rest of his life.Manly-manly-man

That is sad. At least his parents were able to provide some of his wishes for him. I wonder if he knew he wasn't really getting married...

back on topic, to me thats not sad at all, i've seen a video of a bunch kids getting executed by soldiers, and i didnt cry , this kid is not any better than those kids and many other kids dying from hunger, disease and war on a daily basis .
