I'm glad to see that some businesses are adopting this idea. I hope it expands. I don't know how many times the wife and I have went out hoping for a nice peaceful dinner together only to have to spoiled by somebody's screaming bratty offspring. Personally I've long held that if I ran a restaraunt I'd make it kids free, or at the very least have certain kids-free hours.

I'm surprised this is allowed actually. That being said I'm okay with this.

I have often felt like that episode of Family Guy where Brian cries right back at an annoying baby in a restaurant.

I don't get what ever happened to leaving your kids at home with a babysitter when you go out. Seems today's young parents have to take thier kids with them everywhere now.

It's private property. They can refuse service to anyone they want.

Brilliant, although ages 7-13 can be just as annoying, its a massive improvement. I have no doubt people will complain. But I think it is rather insulting when parents bring their children to proper restaurants and just because its a public place they think it's ok to let their children scream and run a round as much as they want.

You can refuse service to whoever you want as long as it's not a blatant violation of ones rights.

If you come into a lot of places without shoes or a shirt they won't do business with you. It's not discrimination, it's their policies.

Well I guess Im lucky than b.c the restaurants I go to would hardly encounter this problem. I guess kids can be annoying sometimes, enough to warrant such action o.o

Absolutely agree. The last movie I say in the theaters was Book of Eli and I couldn't even pay attention to the first half because some sac of crap little douche was running around the aisles and yelling. Luckily someone said something before I did because I was ready to rip that kids parents head off. WhyTF would you bring a small child to an R-rated film!? Bah. Bastards.

Yea, it's not really something I encounter much.

I understand why people would find it appealing, though.

Sounds like a good idea. There's a reason me and the wife don't bring our kid to restaurants or movies. Unless it's a family restaurant.

Perhaps McDain's is taking a page the case of Old Salty's in North Carolina. Last year, the seaside restaurant posted a sign in its front window that read "No screaming children allowed." And shortly thereafter, there was a storm of negative media coverage. So, how's business these days? According to the daytime manager, business has actually increased. "People know they can come in and enjoy their dinners quietly. They always comment on the sign and take pictures and tell us "I love your sign." The only ones who seem to get upset are the ones who don't control their children."ABC News
I prefer this solution.

Also I think our society needs to really improve it's damn parenting. A lot of kids are just let run wild and their parents ignore it. I think it's the fact that any sort of disapline for a kid is frowned upon in our society today. We are to quick to call out somebody for child abuse.

When I was younger I got spanked and smacked when I smarted off or something like that. When I was a baby, my parents didn't take me into crowded areas and quickly left when I started crying. They didn't just ignore me and let everybody else suffer.

I know churches that make mothers go into a special sound-proof room to keep the kids away from everybody else.

Sadly the root of all these issues are today's parents that have no desire to discipline or raise their kids to be civilized human beings.

Isn't the birthrate going back in the EU? This won't help much with raising it again. Next thing we know, the Europeans are a minority and Muslim immigrants shooting out kids left and right the majority.

yeahm in the UK R rated films are over 18s only, no exceptions. And 15 rated films (I don't know what the US equivelant is) are over 15s only. I can't imagine being able to take a kid to an 18

I wish more places would do this. Hell if they did this at the movies i might actually start going again. Like 5 trips in a row have had at least one small child ruining it for everybody. I walked out on Thor and got a refund about 30 minutes in because a baby had been crying nonstop since the pre movie promo stuff ended.

I should clarify, It went -My Friends x5- - Me- -Son- -Father- and no i didn't really say anything, i couldn't have said anything to the kid, he'd probably just start crying or wouldn't understand why i was mad. I could have talked to the dad, but it wasn't that big of an issue as we had just had a big meal before hand... Plus i drank the rest anyway

If kids will be too expensive for you, you shouldn't be having them.

Me and my wife still go to restaurants, movies, fight nights, live music, and other things. Babysitters are not that expensive.

I don't know what places you frequent, but I have yet to see an adult throw a screaming fit for no apparent reason. I also have yet to see any adult run up and down the lanes smacking other people's tables.

Yeah, they can. There's a few (and very few) federally protected status' (race, sex, religion, disability) but other than that a business can refuse service to anyone for any reason whatsoever. Hell, a business can refuse you service simply because they don't like your haircut.

Uhh no they can't.

Uhh, yes they can. Any private restaurant or business has the right to refuse service to anyone. Well here in the US anyway.

So if they wanted to refuse a black guy service just because, and allowed a white guy to eat there, that's perfectly legal? There are laws against discrimination.

You can't discriminate by race, sex or religion but age you most certainly can.

I wish theaters would start banning little kids/babies also.

This. This so much. I fully support the restaurant.
