The following is courtesy of IMDB.com:

1Tropic Thunder $26M $37M

2The Dark Knight $16.8M $471M

3Star Wars: The Clone Wars $15.5M $15.5M

4Mirrors $11.1M $11.1M

5Pineapple Express $10M $62.9M

6The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor $8.61M $86.6M

7Mamma Mia! $6.5M $116M

8The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants 2 $5.93M $32.1M

9Step Brothers $5M $90.9M

10Vicky Cristina Barcelona$3.71M $3.71M

After over a month at the #1 spot, there's a new champ this weekend. Tropic Thunder has opened to positive reviews and since its debut Wednesday, totaled $37 mil, while The Dark Knight FINALLY drops to #2 with $16.8 mil, bringing its total to date to $471 mil. Wow.

Apparently, the hardcore Star Wars fans decided to sit this one out. The Clone Wars opened to mostly negative reviews and a mere $15.5 Mil. George Lucas might not be too happy about that.

And on that note, this marks the UNOFFICIAL end to the 2008 summer movie season. Yeah, I know that technically it doesn't end until labor day, but in all honesty, after looking at the release schedule for the next few weeks, I don't see one movie that has the potential to be a box office hit. At best, MAYBE a modest sucess, but it's doubtful that any of them will hit $100 million.

Next week, we can look forward to the release of Hamlet 2, an EXTREMELY loose adatation of Roger Corman's cult film Death Race, Anna Farris as a washed up playmate in The House Bunny, a washed-up musician has one last chance at fame in The Rocker, and Ice Cube gives up his last remaining shred of gangsta cred in the family film The Longshots....directed by Fred Durst. That's right, the guy from Limp Bizkit.

There was handly any buzz for Star Wars, it seems. But still, it's take is surprisingly underwhelming.

Fred Durst making movies? He made terrible lyrics and i doubt this movie could be described with another adjective.

Anyways, I am impressed with Dark Knights success.

Maybe he found out people stopped caring about his music and decided to invade the movie theaters.

It has a huge fan following, apparently. But I haven't any interest since the original trilogy, but that's just me.

I think LegendaryFox was talking about this Star Wars. :P Dark Knight passed it for #2 all-time this week.

My fault...I didn't realize that. But between that and The Clone War's small take, this isn't shaping up to be George Lucas' weekend. Thanks for clearing that up.

Thank-goodness The Clone Wars bombed. It was obvious attempt at cashing-in on the franchise, instead of being any sort of legit effort at making movie.

That, and in all honestly, I have just had enough of The Clone Wars.

And regardless of that, with The Clone Wars cartoon that already happened few years back, both this and upcoming television show seem really unnecessary.
