I would also like your thoughts on Germany, my birthplace, i've seen some bigoted stuff last time i tried this so here i try it again. What are you general thoughts of europe vs where you live/US? Do you think we are a bunch of misguided pussies that have no balls to play world police? Do you think we have something good going on? I would like to know
When I see a few dickhead Euros (here at GS) being boorish, I reply in kind. I don't care where they're from. They give the middle finger, they get the middle finger back because that's the only language they understand.
Now that the above is out of the way.
Most Euros I've seen in the real world act like most normal folks everywhere. All I've encountered in the past have been nice to me and I returned the courtesy. Being ex-GI (and having a foreign wife), I'm friends with a number of ex-pats from other countries, including a fair number of Europeans.
I had a great time in Germany. Driving on the streets of Frankfurt, Stuttgart, and the GI town of Kaiserlauten was a pleasant experience. Motorists actually kept their distance, signaled, and did the speed limit. I honestly think Germany have some of the more civilized drivers around compared to the bonehead drivers we have here in the US or say, the drivers in England, Turkey, and Italy.
Establishments are about the same as here. I love scale models and dioramas. Visiting hobby shops in Europe was a routine I did. Euro hobby shops have that feeling of authenticity because a lot of the hobby stuff I purchased (eg Verlinden products) in the US were imported from Europe. It's like an honor to be at the source and the shop owners are more than happy to talk shop.
Houses in general tended to be on the small side though. My wife definitely prefer US houses and furniture although she also thought Euros are better with hard wood and wrought iron/marble. We have European-made wrought iron kitchen furniture along with Italian (and Turkish) marble which is highly prized by my wife.
