I'm digging around for music at moment and not having much luck. My normal method of searching seems to of reached it's limit, where I check out a band I like and see what bands are similar and sample some of their tracks. Problem is i've run out of links, so I need somewhere new to start.

Tell or link us a song and maybe i'll check it out. I'm not going to say what type of song i'm after, just post us something you like. A song you think someone who is quite open minded to music will appreciate, and it may just help me out a lot. Don't worry about the genre this time, but don't go linking your entire libary, don't want to spam the house down!

I've discovered a few great bands from off-topic in the past, it's probably the one good thing about the place.

Anyone who is going to say 'Just go LastFM or Napster' I do search a lot in my own time, but a situation which may be familiar to some of you, your trying to find more of a certain type of music but you find the bands are nothing really like the type of music your after. It could be that they did one or two hidden gems which are just the thing you are looking for, but you missed it because you didn't file through every single track.

This is why topics like this are handy.

Just a few notes!

  • Anything but hardcore techno and garage. I don't go there.
  • No need to link legend bands such as ACDC, Iron Maiden, The Beatles or stuff which it's obvious everyone in the world knows of. But don't worry if they are popular modern bands like The Muse or Taking back Sunday. I might of not heard the track, I don't listen to radio much.
  • I don't mind if it's dark and obscene.

Thanks in advance!

- The flaming lips (probably, or hopefully? you have already heard of this band - But I feel they are worth mentioning)

Red Sparowes

Boards of Canada

Air (Talkie Walkie, and Moon Safari)

Caribou (as mentioned above)

I hope you can appreciate these bands as much as I do.

Funny you say that, someone linked Moon Safari by Air, the music video to that song always used to depress me. Some romance between a guy who seems to skate for a living I guess, who meets some girl at a skatepark and become soul mates, then travel around and just chill out together for life. Used to depress me because I thought that was an awesome lifestyle, but seemed like fantasy to me. I won't go into all the details, but lets just it's not women who don't get the time of day.

Anyway, i've not checked most of these out yet. A few bands i've not heard of and some I have. Oh and in answer to above, yeah I know of The Flaming Lips, weird and wonderful band. I remember that track they did with The Chemical Brothers years ago.

Trance can be good. That's what I grew up with in my teens. I fell out with it for a while and now totally lost track. It sort of become too much focus on the raspy woman groans and vocals, like she really needed to get laid bad. I used to love dance music also but that became too much on this ibiza scene, with womans vocals singing about castles in the sky and miracles. I preferred it when the vocals weren't the highlight.

I've not spent much time looking up trance but might be worth checking out.

I'll give a big list of some nice vocal and regular uplifting trance songs. I'll be back.

I've no idea of your musical tastes, TC, but some songs I would suggest are Special K by Placebo, Debaser by the Pixies, Even Flow by Pearl Jam and just about anything by Nirvana or the Clash.

That's an intresting selection. I'm guessing your someone who lives in London or Manchester and attends afair few concerts.I like it,a few of those were new to me and they were all very distinct. I remember that Ocean Color Scene song, it was one of the prime songs when Indy Brit pop was huge in the 90's and was mostly what made up the radio before hip-hop got all big. Remember songs from Bluetones, Shed Sevenand The Charlatons.

I'm checking everything out in no paticular order.

Cheers Evil_Saluki!

I hail from Scotland. The London and Manchester scenes are cool though. A lot of solid bands have come out of there. The music scene is pretty good up here too. Bands like The Fratellis, Garbage, Franz Ferdinand, and musicians like Calvin Harris etc..

I've been to some memorable gigs and live outdoor events over the years. My music tastes are fairly spread out. I love drum and bass, dubstep and can switch over to metal and electronica etc as well.

The Brit Pop era was a great time. The Bluetones, Shed Seven and The Charlatons bring back memories from growing up. The same applies to Blur, Oasis and Supergrass. I also liked Sleeper. They were a good band from back in the day. With Ocean Colour Scene, I saw them at an indoor gig once, and they had everyone on their feet dancing and stomping,:) Brilliant live band.

I'm glad you like the variety of musical choices.
