Tiger Woods Live statement.....

Ok. I know that the news interuppts normal broadcasting when someone important makes some speech like perhaps the president or someone of equal importance. Or if the topic in hand is something dire. However.....why would they need to interuppt broadcast...for...tiger woods??? He is just a golfer. I doubt his statement is something everyone HAS to see right now. It seems kinda silly. I wonder if he paid to have it shown live.

That was one of the worst speeches I've seen in a while and he wussed out by not taking questions. I still don't feel sorry for him.

Totally rehearsed and in no way genuine. And you could tell he was lying through his teeth when he said his wife never attacked him.

He didn't complain about the publicity when he was the face of several major advertising campaigns, and had his face on the cover of a video game. If he wants to take on that persona again, he has to at least make an attempt at an apology.

Had to listen to it on ESPN radio
-my thoughts

Way too planned/controlled
1. did it on a Friday = best day to avoid media (less news over weekend...would have been covered all week if he had done it on a Monday)
2. poor form to do it while a tournament is going on = take away from your own sport
3. doing it at a place that is run by a formersponsor = trying to get them back?
4. hand selected media/no questions further demonstrates his extreme control issues

If he was going to do something like this, he should have done it the right way
-IMO he owes 'us' nothing...he should only apologize to his family, sponsors, and fellow players for the hurt and embarrassment he caused them...but if you are going to to do this, then make sure it is genuine

I in no way condone what the guy did, but I do not feel as if he owes the world an explanation. Just because he is a famous sports figure it does not change the fact that he is a fallible human being like the rest of us. In this regard, he should not be judged or held accountable by anyone other than his family.

We as fallible beings ourselves are in no position to place ourselves on pedestals and judge someone else for screwing up. We have all screwed up in some shape, form or fashion, but that does not mean that we owe the world an apology and/or explanation for doing so. Just because he is famous does not change the fact that he is also human.

As far as the speech goes, I thought it was rather pathetic and am certain that it will be made fun of on Saturday Night Live. It was so scripted and poorly put together that I almost felt bad for the guy. He is not the first man to have ever cheated on his wife and sure as hell will not be the last. He is merely being held to a higher standard than other humans just because he can play golf really well. What a circus, which is always par for the course as far as the media is concerned.

IMO, the John and Kate media owes Tiger an apology for dragging his personal life through the mud this long. All this proves is how shrill and anti-news the media has become. They should apologise to all of us for the rancid pith they deliver on a constant basis.
