How much does Viagra cost? Is it expensive? I wouldn't know, but I could understand that sexuality and the expression fo said is an important part of any person. Can you imagine being unable to perform sexually? That could be psychologically damaging, I'm sure, to many people.

Regardless, instead of idiots with religious/politicla agendas, it should be a body of competent doctors and scientists who decide what should and should not eb covered as a baseline for those receiving healthcare help fromt he government.

Based on what's doable, ifnancially, and what's best for society at large. If it can be determined, statistically and through studies that having affordable/free contraceptives means less unwated babies, healthier people, etc, etc, I'm all for it.

Kinthalis

But how do you determine who is competent and how do you find these doctors and scientists that don't also have religious or political agendas and determine that is true? You'll still have conflicting studies and statistics. I don't really see how this is an any better system then what there currently is.

[QUOTE="GreySeal9"]

[QUOTE="LJS9502_basic"] This discussion is painful. You should both be ashamed.LJS9502_basic

You're not exactly adding much to the thread; you're just critisizing other posters. Also, being "ashamed" for a "painful" discussion on OT seems like a bit much. It's not like the people on this thread are on the floors of Congress.

As for the topic, I don't think a mere nomination is outrageous. She was influential in the political discourse in her own way even if I wouldn't have nominated her if I was in charge of the nominations. If she actually won? It wouldn't be deserved, but I don't see the point of upsetting yourself over this, TC. It doesn't really matter.

Thanks for adding nothing.....I had already made my opinion on the issue so it would have been rather pointless to continue. But hey......being a hypocrite suits you.

'K, LJ. Continue to fight the good fight against internet hypocrisy and painful internet discussions! The internet is counting on you!

Anyway, TC, I just had another thought: why are Fluke's looks an issue? A lot of women look average. Why does it matter?

I hope everyone involved in this is thoroughly embarrased of themselves. This is politically correct back patting at its most idiotic. Even if you limited your candidates to progressive liberals, there are a few out there who have at least helped somebody.

Very true. People seem to genuinely enjoy complaining about who wins these awards, even tho they'll then pretend that they don't care.

Good point, the only famous liberals are the ones who screw around with other people, and then again I was thinking about it, and if someone is an intellectually consistent liberal they would probably only be accomplishing good by accident and despite their liberalism.

So I guess Sandra Fluke is as a good a choice as any that Time would be likely to make.

I will say this about Sandra Fluke, I like how upset she has made some people. :P Also I'm pretty sure Time made me person of the year at one point, so I don't see the issue with merely nominating her.Sajo7

She's the one that b*tches and crys "SEXIST!!!!" if someone doesn't like her.

There are far, far, far many more important people than Sandra Fluke that influenced the world in 2012. Just like WiiCube, I'd vote for the Higg's Boson.

Haven't read TIME in so long, there's much better current events and lifestyle publications available.

Anyway, should have been Malala Yousafzai.

Serraph105

given that he lost a lot of ad revenue the last time he made this molehill into a mountain of bs, I'm betting he won't touch it.

I don't know the temptation may be too hard to resist. He gets to take a dig at her and Time Magazine all in one fell swoop.

Wait a minute...looking further at TIME I see this:

"As always, TIME's editors will choose the Person of the Year, but that doesn't mean readers shouldn't have their say. Cast your vote for the person you think most influenced the news this year for better or worse. Voting closes at 11:59 p.m. on Dec. 12, and the winner will be announced on Dec. 14."

Agreed. IMO, Time's Person of the Year list is not really worth having a strong reaction to either way. They have enough fluff selections (like the ones you mentioned) ever year that I hardly see how Sandra Fluke in particular is such a travesty.

Goddamn this thread is full of people not knowing what the f*ck they're talking about. The Time magazine "Person of the Year" isn't an honor and isn't an award. It's a recognition of, in Time's own words, a person, group, object or idea who "for better or worse has done the most to influence the events of the year". Some previous "winners" include Adolph Hitler Joseph Stalin and the personal computer.

Also Sandra Fluke's contention was never about contraception being taxpayer funded. She never said a thing about taxpayer money. That's a line of bullsh*t made up by blowhards like that hypocritical, drug-addled human sh*tbag Rush Limbaugh. Fluke's contention was that insurance should be required to cover contraceptives.

I read a couple chapters just to see what it was about. It was probably the worst published material I've ever read. Amazingly, it made Twilight look not that bad by comparison.

Pretty sh*tty year for humanity if she is a viable candidate.....you'd think there would have to be someone who actually did something out in the world....Omni-Slash

[QUOTE="Aljosa23"]Everyone in the thread seems to think she won it.

If she was just nominated, why is it a big deal

Aljosa23

Because Fluke sucks and is nigh irrelevent.

well clearly shes relevant if time mentioned her

No it means the people at Time think she's relevant.

And speaking of that, you know who else is nigh irrelevent? Time.

You're entitled to your opinion about her, but to say she's irrelevant is a pretty difficult argument to make. She was pretty much a symbol of a big issue in this year's political discourse.
