Ask yourself this what possible reason the Iranians would have in entering Iraqi waters to kidnap some allied grunts vs. what interest the Brits might have in doing the same. You know, the same Britons who are part of an alliance contemplating an invasion of Iran in the near future?

Yes, it could have been the Iranians. Maybe they misread their coordinates and thought the Brits were in Iranian waters, or maybe the British misread theirs. But why do you automatically trust the word of the British over the Iranians about the alleged border breach? The military is not about honesty, and neither are politics at this level.

Also, about the US Embassy, read up on it and you will find that the revolutionaries had a very good reason for occupying the embassy in 1979. The UK and US had reinstated a toppled shah before and the Iranians were merely trying to prevent it from happening again.

You may supress a culture, or occupy a country but you can never fully control wipe out another region.. no matter how much you try. its called total warfare, something the us hasnt done in a while.  destroy food supplies, bomb cities/towns, kill civilians.  if the us implied total warfare in iraq, the war would have been over years ago...beat them into submission

They guy is an idiot, but not for the reasons you mentioned.  He has an ego complex and is relatively unpopular at home, so his solution to both of those issues is to villify the west.  That just helps to solidify his power base and quell domestic discontent for his poor performance on the Iranian economy.

That still wouldn't be a total war on the US part. Total war is when you channel all available resources into warfare, and you only need a few dozen silo operators to nuke all of Iraq. That would be unrestricted warfare, but it would not be total war. They don't really exist in the nuclear age, at least not between belligerents where the power disparity is as large as between the US and Iraq.

US government in the 70's helped set up dictators like the Iranian Shah, who the Iranians overthrew and Saddam as well. You americans forget he was the US biggest ally in the mid east in the 80's. Both these dictators killed plenty of their population. So don't give me the crap about "oh noes america does no wrong".

I hate the guy, I really do.  Glen Beck had 10 minutes of video on his TV show on CNN quoting him on how "Islam will set the West on fire with their rage."  Yet I come onto these boards and non-Americans and even the foolish claim he is a great guy and very popular! 

Guess what?  He's not.  His people hate him, he has ruined their economy and took those British soldiers hostage to make it seem to the Iranian populace that the "West is about to invade." 

Hoobinator claims I shouldn't believe what the US media feeds me.  Well Canada censors their media outlets.  They won't channels such as Fox News even air over there (of course that could have changed in the past year).  The BBC spews as much anti-American crap as Al Jazera (spelling?).
