It takes more time, thought and effort for me to type in text message / internet shorthand than it does to type out complete sentences. You can type however you want, but know that if your post falls below my threshold of acceptable slaughter of the English language I just don't read it. I'm sure I'm not the only one who does that so as long as you're fine with being ignored by a percentage of the userbase please soldier on in your war against literacy.

I have noticed in(ON) this site, and in(ON) the web generally (IN GENERAL) that very few (Few what? Cows?,Cats?, People?)know how to write a correct sentense(SENTENCE), and even worse, very few care to do so. Almost every text that is posted is (2 x is, try to rephrase) full of grammatical and spelling errors. I'm not an English speaker (Yes you are, your not a Native American/Englishmen etc.) my self, yet I try my best to avoid as possible any errors (wow this phrase is pretty bad). And even if I eventually do some(again, do some what? You cant do mistakes, you mean: Make some mistakes), at least I try not to. I don't understand why people don't care anymore to be expressed(to express themselves) using proper English. Is proper use of language old-fashioned ?

It would be very interesting for me to read your opinions, especially those who are Americans or English speakers generally (leave the generally part).

Rheinmetal

Im not doing this to be an as*&^^^ im just doing this to show you that everyone makes mistakes, be it at their own level. Therefore you shouldn't assume that everyone types incorrect on purpose. And ofcourse you will see more mistakes then during English class but thats also because this is an informal webforum, and not a graded essay.

You shouldn't had bothered to show me something, that I already understand by my own (and in any case, you could had found a more elegant way to do it.) Perhaps I wasn't clear enough, in what I was meaning: I am annoyed because I see that many people don't care to express themselves properly. Not knowing (like me) is one thing, but not trying at all is something, that I don't like as an attitude, whether English is someone's first language, or second . Also, there is a great distance between writing in an informal way, and completely ignoring, or worse, defying on purpose (I insist), the rules of written communication.

For me, an internet forum is a place of communication, not so much different than any other place where we meet people. While in a forum, our written expression is the sole way to show to the others something from ourselves. It's the equivalent of how we care, or don't care for our behaviour, or for our apperance , when we are in a public place, where we can see and hear each other. So my point is, that neglecting the language, is the same as neglecting a part of ourselves, and being disrespective towards the others.

Yeah people who spell a word wrong or make a gramatical error should be banned. Serously though, I'ts perfectly natural for a native english speaker to make a few spelling errors now and then.

Nobody is being graded, so who cares? It's notation therefore it's expendable. Sure they could use the onboard spell checker but they are not obligated to do so. If they neglect to check their spelling and grammar it's probably because everything else is more important than this message board. It all boils down to how much their time is worth. Apparently you're not worth their time, no offense. They do what they do because they don't care if you don't like it.

Don't be a grammar nazi, it's trivial. Your grammar isn't perfect. Proper english is a style of grammar, not the only correct grammar. Your english isn't proper. Nobody uses proper english because it's flamboyant. It's a style of English that was created by rich snobs because they loved the stink of their own **** Nobody fully uses proper english. It's always a hybrid of guttural & proper.

Is "sentense" some new pretentious word that I don't know about? Really...this is an internet forum. You don't need perfect grammar for people to understand what you're talking about.

I never expected someone to actually relate me to the nazi movement, or the nazi way of thinking (!!!). Well there is a first time for everything I guess. (Also, that explains why I was never enthusiastic about the "Medal of Honor" series).

When I talk about "proper English", what I have in mind, is a minimum common code that everyone can understand, and feel comfortable with. Nothing more than that. If you are happy with how the language is used on the internet, it's ok with me, believe me.

I dont mind improper grammar seeing as we are online and typing so you want to write as fast as possible. What I do hate is when your terrible grammar gets in the way of your message. When your entire post is inscrutable due to "sm tr43sh lyke dis den itz getz vry anyng" :?

Most of the time I use proper spelling and grammar. I think it's just a habit. But I really can't stand it when people use absolutely *no* grammar and abbreviations or weird spelling because it can (not always) make it really hard to understand.

If people have a problem with decyphering my broken engrish, its their headache, not mine. The HTML errors being as they are in this site, i really dont have much love for articulating myself to the point of perfection, anyways.

Okay fair enough. I can sympathize with your opinion. I dont see it as such a big problem as long as I understand what someone is trying to say. Having that said I do hate really bad internet slang like /endthread and stuff like that.

Its different, spelling a few words wrong versus, say, going: the resano yorue worng is blah blah blah When youre arguing proper english is expected or we have the right to drop a 16-ton weight on your head.
