I know alot of Anti-Pseudo-Intellectual people will deny it, but Tool's lyrics speak from the soul. They are not pseudo anything, in fact the people saying this probably listen to Poker Face.

Anyway, I'm going to list each Tool song & their meaning, so people can start believing in their music.

Prison Sex: Child Abuse

4 Degrees: Abortion

Hooker with a Penis - Selling Out

Schism: Tower of Babel

The Pot: Justice System

Vicarious: Media

Rosetta Stoned: DMT trip

Should I keep going? Once you know the meaning of the songs, you will appreciate them more.

Never cared for the meaning of songs, all that matters is how they sound. And Tool happens to sound good.

I love Tool. You can interpret their songs in what ever way you want. But I dont think they're the most influential band.

I'm assuming, to make such a big statement, you have listened to all the bands, (and I mean all of them) from the 20th and 21th Century, right?

I would say Little Richard or The Velvet Underground as the most influential artists of the 20th century...
As for the 21st century? To early to tell..

punkpunker

^This.

Just no TC, Tool are not the most influential band, in fact they're pretty overated. They're so many more bands with deeper lyrics than Tool (ie Pink Floyd and this is coming from someone who doesn't enjoy Pink Floyd much).

I agree, they are a very influential band who make great music.

And though not all the lyrics of all their songs are meaningful, they're almost always deep. Maynard is a poet whos music makes you think.

And their music doesn't sound like typical metal. It's amazingly original. So beautiful, dark and mysterious

Here's another one you didn't list:

Ticks and Leeches: Record companys who steal all of their bands money. Particularly Tools old Label "Zoo"

Or at least I've been lead to believe.

>Tool is the most influential band of the 20th & 21st Century

You might have gotten away with just 21st century because it just began and it's harder to measure influence.
But let's count the bands off the top of my head in the 20th century who are more influential than Tool shall we?

The Beach Boys, The Beatles, King Crimson, Black Sabbath, Pink Floyd, Kraftwerk, Metallica, Aphex Twin, Nas, Neutral Milk Hotel, Radiohead.
Refute all of these.

You forgot Krfatwerk and Nas plus half of those are wrong.

It's irellevant anyway because
A. Most of those bands aren't as influential as the ones who they influenced.

B. They're all more influential than Tool.

Tool was influenced by many contributors to society, including Bill Hicks, Karl Marx, & Other sociologists & pychologists. He even mentions Hoffman, his mother, and real life experiences. They even go back to the BC's to modern times and back. And the band also thinks for themselves, something rare.

He talks about Ron Hubbard and actual people, it's not some bubblegum music.

Ok now your getting a bit ridiculous.

Their songs have deep meanings to them - Yes. That does not mean they are an influential band. I see nothing in today's society that was directly influenced by Tool.

I know who all those people are, but I was talking about musical influences. Awesome, they were influenced by major figures in society, they think for themselves. and their music is "deep." Still doesn't make them more influential then any of the classic 50's 60's or 70's bands...

[QUOTE="imaps3fanboy"] Mmmmk.. you're not making any sense, I can't make a rebuttal to an incoherent idea..imaps3fanboy

If you knew who these people were, then you wouldn't be so incoherent.

I know who all those people are, but I was talking about musical influences. Awesome, they were influenced by major figures in society, they think for themselves. and their music is "deep." Still doesn't make them more influential then any of the classic 50's 60's or 70's bands...

But it does, because they use knowledge and books as their main motivation for performing. Not to sell records.

So do most other bands, I don't see what your point is.

So, why I don't I go and buy the books that they read? Or is Tool like books on tape, except the spark notes version?

You should buy the books Tool reads. Most notibably Alex Grey's illustrations & biographies of these sociologists, psychologists & drugs. Look for books on the Pineal Gland, & dimethyltriptamine.
