1. HORSE RACING: I'm not going to discredit what the jockey does, but when it comes down to it, the horse is doing all the work and the guy on top is simply slapping the horse in the ass with a stick. 2. POKER: Why poker is on ESPN puzzles me to this day. Poker is a game, not a sport. If they are going to put poker on ESPN, you might as well put games of rock-paper-scissors on ESPN as well. 3. CHEER LEADING: If you've ever talked to a girl who is a cheer leader she will tell you that "cheer leading practice is not easy like you might think and it is actually very hard." Well cleaning your room might be very hard as well but that isn't a sport either. It may be tough to make the little pyramids and do flips and stuff but waving little pom-poms around is not a sport. The cheer leaders are there to get the fans pumped up but anyone over 7 years old doesn't get pumped up and root on the team more because of the cheer leaders. Cheer leaders need to face the fact that the only reason they are there is so that people can look at them in their short skirts. 4. AUTO RACING: NASCAR and other forms of driving cars are by no means a sport. Yeah, it takes talent to drive hundreds of miles an hour without crashing, but that is a skill, not a sport. Anything where you sit down while doing it is not a sport. And while the driver does the driving, the car is going around the track and doing a lot of the work. Any sport where you don't physically do most of the stuff is not a sport. If auto racing is a sport, than speeding up at a yellow light is a sport as well. 5. GOLF: It takes skill to golf but it is not a sport. Any sport where the fans can't make any noise is not a sport. When a pitcher has a no-hitter going in the 9th inning, do the fans have to be quiet? Absolutely not. So why should fans of golf have to be quiet when something is happening on the course. Golf is like chess, it's a game of skill but it is not a sport. RUNNER UP: THE SPELLING BEE: The reason this wasn't number 1 on my list was because no one outside of ESPN even considers it a sport. I'm completely clueless why the spelling bee is on ESPN. I'm even more clueless why they show highlights of the competition on SportsCenter. A bunch of little weird freak kids competing to achieve their parents failed dreams is not a sport.

For me, a sport is something you can bet on without feeling like an idiot. Somehow, I don't see too many people placing bets on cheerleading or spelling bees.

What about Chess and darts.

I don't agree on golf. This is actually not exhausting or what so ever, but you need extreme concentration and loads of practice.

Ok, as a golfer, I have to disagree with you...sort of, anyway. Golf is very much a sport, depending on how you play. If you're a good player (i.e. the ball goes where you want), and you ride a cart, it's not a sport. That's an afternoon liesure activity. If' you're a good player who walks, or a bad player who rides a cart, it's a little more vigorous. If you're a bad player who walks, it is DEFINITELY a sport. If you consider cross-country hiking, swimming, climbing and trail-blazing sports, then the bad golfer is the ULTIMATE athelete!

And those poor spelling B kids...leave them alone. They have enough problems.

Definitely take out cheerleading. Also, I heard that there is a push for ballroom dancing to be a sport (Olympic)----I hope there is no way that that is regarded as being a sport. Poker is also not a sport---sitting and waiting for the right card to pop up while bs'ing each other is not a sport.

Completely disagree with autoracing. Here's the definition of a sport according to Encarta: 'an individual or group competitive activity involving physical exertion or skill, governed by rules, and sometimes engaged in professionally'. It's a sport because it's physically demanding. You try driving a car at 250 km/h for an hour and a half in a suit with a temperature of 40 degrees Celcius and tell me if that isn't a sport...(Talking about F1 there).

That also takes golf off that list and possibly poker. I agree with horse racing, but I never heard of cheer leading ever been classified as a sport.

Yep I have to agree with all of those.

All funny too in a George Carlin-esque kind of way.

A real sport involves running or moving with great physical exertion and a ball or apparatus like a puck. Baseball Football Soccer Hockey(moving fast on skates) Basketball Volleyball all actual sports.

Many other things are very cool and or very fun to do, but shouldn't be considered sports.

Golf would be a sport if the players wore padding and battled each other with their clubs between holes.

People are trying to find out who is the best at a certian event, so it is a sport. Chess is a sport if you are competing aganist others. Why must you be running and sweating for it to be a sport? Also, they do have cheerleading competitions, so it is also a sport. Skill + competition = sport.

American football shouldn't be considered a sport.

Its alot more sport like than Soccer...

Awright, let's get it on. Even though I'm not MYSELF such a 'soccer' fan, everyone around me is, and I get dragged into the whole carnival it is.

So, tell me, why is american football more sport-like than football?

My friend you got me on your side on this one *goes behind fepepinar* Football is better than american football, much, much, much better

nooooo way dude american football >>>>>>>> soccer

Everyone has their own opinion. I find football to be much, much better than american football.
