[QUOTE="Sajo7"][QUOTE="-MlKE-"][QUOTE="Sajo7"]So is rock-paper-scissors a sport as well? Because "people compete" in those as well.People comptete agaisnt each other in all of those. They're sports.

Thats a game of chance.
This actually helps (I'm completely serious, NO JOKE)
Try signing up?
I can't believe you people don't know about these!
I can't help it but that's hilarious  Even though it is considered a sport, I still find it a bit weird. Imagine watching on TV two people playing paper-scissors-rocks. It just doesn't seem right.
[QUOTE="Ruben360"][QUOTE="achilles614"][QUOTE="karlgauci"][QUOTE="fepepinar"][QUOTE="Def_Jef88"][QUOTE="fepepinar"]Its alot more sport like than Soccer...American football shouldn't be considered a sport.
*gets anti-bashing shield* :C

Awright, let's get it on. Even though I'm not MYSELF such a 'soccer' fan, everyone around me is, and I get dragged into the whole carnival it is.
So, tell me, why is american football more sport-like than football?
My friend you got me on your side on this one *goes behind fepepinar* Football is better than american football, much, much, much better
nooooo way dude american football >>>>>>>> soccerSoccer >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> American Football
I agree, American Football is boring to watch.
I'm just kiddding I hate both of them.If it doesn't have a ball, its not a sport
1. Hockey - a puck is not a ball2. Boxing - No Ball3. MMA - No Ball4. Swimming - No Ball5. Wrestling - No Ball
See the pattern? InterpolWilco
A sport doesnt require a ball to be a sport. A sport requires you to be in good condition and you have to do a lot of work. That being said, Hockey is the ULTIMATE sport, hockey players are the only athletes who arent completely obsessed with themselves like football. And i'd have to agree that wrestlin is not a sport, more of a play really, like at a theater.
People comptete agaisnt each other in all of those. They're sports.
Sajo7
so war is a sport?
just trying to be a smart-ass, nothing personal. lol
1. HORSE RACING: I'm not going to discredit what the jockey does, but when it comes down to it, the horse is doing all the work and the guy on top is simply slapping the horse in the ass with a stick. 2. POKER: Why poker is on ESPN puzzles me to this day. Poker is a game, not a sport. If they are going to put poker on ESPN, you might as well put games of rock-paper-scissors on ESPN as well. 3. CHEER LEADING: If you've ever talked to a girl who is a cheer leader she will tell you that "cheer leading practice is not easy like you might think and it is actually very hard." Well cleaning your room might be very hard as well but that isn't a sport either. It may be tough to make the little pyramids and do flips and stuff but waving little pom-poms around is not a sport. The cheer leaders are there to get the fans pumped up but anyone over 7 years old doesn't get pumped up and root on the team more because of the cheer leaders. Cheer leaders need to face the fact that the only reason they are there is so that people can look at them in their short skirts. 4. AUTO RACING: NASCAR and other forms of driving cars are by no means a sport. Yeah, it takes talent to drive hundreds of miles an hour without crashing, but that is a skill, not a sport. Anything where you sit down while doing it is not a sport. And while the driver does the driving, the car is going around the track and doing a lot of the work. Any sport where you don't physically do most of the stuff is not a sport. If auto racing is a sport, than speeding up at a yellow light is a sport as well. 5. GOLF: It takes skill to golf but it is not a sport. Any sport where the fans can't make any noise is not a sport. When a pitcher has a no-hitter going in the 9th inning, do the fans have to be quiet? Absolutely not. So why should fans of golf have to be quiet when something is happening on the course. Golf is like chess, it's a game of skill but it is not a sport. RUNNER UP: THE SPELLING BEE: The reason this wasn't number 1 on my list was because no one outside of ESPN even considers it a sport. I'm completely clueless why the spelling bee is on ESPN. I'm even more clueless why they show highlights of the competition on SportsCenter. A bunch of little weird freak kids competing to achieve their parents failed dreams is not a sport.-MlKE-
I have to disagree with u on all of them. each one takes a person who trained and has skill in that talent. I think if u have to train at it to be good at it and it's a competition then its a sport no matter how boring it is to u.
NASCAR takes all 5 slots easily. Now if they pedaled their cars aroudn the track like Fred Flintstone I would consider it a sport.rudyroundhead
I'd like u to see u do what they do one day. Oh wait that's right u hqave no training in that so all u would do is crash into a wall the first turn and then you'd get killed in a firey burning heap of carnage and metal. How the heck is it not a sport. its the only sport that has a risk of you being killed every time u compete.
Completely disagree with autoracing. Here's the definition of a sport according to Encarta: 'an individual or group competitive activity involving physical exertion or skill, governed by rules, and sometimes engaged in professionally'. It's a sport because it's physically demanding. You try driving a car at 250 km/h for an hour and a half in a suit with a temperature of 40 degrees Celcius and tell me if that isn't a sport...(Talking about F1 there).
sthadji
i totally agree with that.
If it doesn't have a ball, its not a sport

Okay those are all definitely sports. So you think playing with a bouncy ball is a sport?

If you risk getting killed every time it shouldn't be a sport either. It's moved beyond a mere "sport" at that point.
I think sports should be graded on skill, physical exertion....... etc.
Alpha sport Football (soccer)
Beta sports Basketball, Hockey, Golf, Cricket, Snooker...... etc
.
Zeta Sports Rugby, Poker, Chess......etc
[QUOTE="Franky-the-bat"][QUOTE="Ruben360"]What about Chess and darts.
I don't agree on golf. This is actually not exhausting or what so ever, but you need extreme concentration and loads of practice.
Ruben360
Darts has ever right to be a sport, i bet you have no ideal how much time and practice it takes to get to the professional level.
How about tiddle winks, isn't that in the Olympics now?
Well, Golf requires waaaaay more practice then darts does.
Hang on a minute, when did I say golf doesn't need as much practice as darts? This has nothing to do with what I said.
Anyway, have you ever rang up Phil Taylor and asked him how much time he takes to practice? I bet you wouldn't know who he was if he slapped you in the face.
He is one of the few sportsman who's dominated there sport, he's a 13 times world champion and he has many years ahead of him, and I know that he takes hours of everyday practicing, the darts standard has risen so quickly in the last 20 years everyone needs to be at the top of there game if they want to support there family's with darts.
So don't say crap like golf requires more practice, if you base it on nothing.also...add Cricket and Baseball to the list. For the ones who dont know Cricket..it is almost like Baseball...only more BORING. IN these two sports.. 1. Not everybody gets a chance to play 2. Waste of time..as it takes a LOOONG time to end. 3. Stupid and complicated rules. 4. The games get delayed, when theres no reason for it...like rain, snow or even LACK OF LIGHT? and the only sport, that shud be considered as a Sport is FOOTBALL (soccer for u americans)...THE BEAUTIFUL GAME.freakick
So cricket shouldn't be considered a sport because YOU find it boring, and you don't get the rules?
Whets even worse is that the only sport you consider sport is football, a bunch of fairies dancing around falling over each other whilst trying to kick a ball, what a dull sport, half of the footballers wouldn't of survived back in the 60 and 70s.
Bunch of overpaid talentless wimps; I'm guessing you are from the UK like me, if so I'm ashamed.[QUOTE="freakick"]also...add Cricket and Baseball to the list. You're just as bad the person you quoted. Well done for making yourself also look like a complete idiot.
According to your logic, nothing is a sport.
Example:
AMERICAN FOOTBALL: Yeah it takes skill to throw a ball, kick it between some posts and barge your way past everyone, but that's skill not a sport. If it was a sport then so is ramming my elbow into the face of anybody on a pedestrian path.
TENNIS: Any sport where spectators have to be quiet is not a sport. What's up with that? Are the players trying to concentrate or something? They're so rude.
BASEBALL: Hitting the ball at the right spot and at the right time might take skill but it's not a sport. If it was then bashing little old grannies with a tire iron is a sport.

Didn't you see the stupid logic I was using, I was being a little sarcastic.
You have man u in your sig so I know you like football, so how does it feel when someone like me gives ridiculous reasons why I consider football not a sport. Please Log In to post.
