So Pitchfork.com came out with another one of their lists--most recent being this.

Frankly, I'm disappointed by the list as a whole. I do agree with Kid A being number one, because even today it still has the same effect on me as it did nine years ago. I feel that no song sounds dated, the album inadvertently gave a higher tolerance to stubborn fans who originally wouldn't think twice about any form of electronic music and finally, Radiohead completely succeeded in capturing the proverbial tyranny/rise of technology and the Internet (a scary thing if you dissect it's existence today, while theorizing what it may bring tomorrow). Radiohead destroyed the foundation they built throughout the 90's and made something they wanted to make, appropriate for the world around them, whether the fans appreciated it or not. This album was more of a development in rock's history, than another piece added to it's existence.

Now, as for the rest of the 199 albums, I'd say about 50% of them actually belong on the list; so I'd like your opinion, what's your pick for the top album (singular) of the 2000's and discuss why.

[PLEASE avoid flaming, don't post "All new music sucks" or anything of the like.....and don't post Muse's newest album--Ten years is a long time, think harder than that]

Hmmm... can't really say much. The only album I had on that list was Daft Punk's "Discovery".

Your pick doesn't have to be on the list. Whatever you feel is best.

I know, now I just went back in the list, seen some others I had. I was saying I can't comment on some of the albums I don't have.

I'm happy to see Kid A and The Moon & Antarctica on that list.

I love both of those albums.

Sorry, I'm too lazy to look at the other 190 albums on the list... >_>

That list is...pretty bad, only album I've seen on there so far that I think deserves to be on the list is Kid A...and even then, it doesn't deserve to be anywhere near number 1.

Keep in mind that pitchfork kind of avoids/neglects a lot of different genres. Which is why I'm not really interested in the list itself, more of what you think the best album from the past 10 years is. REGARDLESS of whether or not it's on the list.

What I think is the best? Hmm...I would say either Ashes Against The Grain by Agalloch, or This Godless Endeavor by Nevermore.

i only got to reading the top 50, but i didnt like that segment at all. im not sure what id pick as the top album, but my top 3 would easily be traced in air by cynic, emergent by gordian knot, and machinations of dementia by blotted science. since i always talk about cynic, ill go with gordian knot today. emergent masterfully blurs the lines between prog rock, metal, and jazz fusion while giving tributes to malone's musical heroes such as bach. the album covers complex emotions such as repressed joy to freedom and innocense all without lyrics. its all done in a compositional format that much less blocky than the mundane verse-chorus format.

Sounds like something more people need to hear. Specifically the writers of this entry. I'll check that out when I get home.

My top album of the 2000's would be Agalloch's Ashes Against The Grain. Mirrorthrone's Carriers Of Dust and Ikuinen Kaamos' The Forlorn are both great albums as well. Anaal Nathrakh released pretty much their entirely discography after 2000, and so did Bloodbath. and Ulver completely changed direction while still remaining a quality band. There's a lot of great albums that came out in the last decade, however most of them were limited to the underground, which I'm sure was neglected in making that list and most lists like that.

Meh it's Pitchfork and I really don't take them seriously but Optimistic is one of my favorite songs so props for putting Kid A on there (like they wouldn't anyway lol).

Choosing the best album for any decade is insanely hard, but the best album of the '00s? Impossible as of now. Maybe at the end of the next decade we'll be able to look back and see which album has been the most influential, but right now it's too soon to tell.

Of course I still have my favorites. On the top of my head, Crystal Castles' debut album, for example.

(Pitchfork = softrock/indie stuff) SAGE_OF_FIRE

Those are included, but I don't think Jay-Z falls into either of those categories :/

Either way, music is so subjective any person could argue any album to be the best (excluding the American Idiot poster)...Take Lateralus for instance-- Pitchfork gave it a 2/10 or something of the like, which has to be a crime.

Being your favorite album of all time doesn't objectively make it one of the best albums of the 2000s. Do you listen to a lot of punk in general?

"Don't want to be an American idiot.
Don't want a nation under the new mania
And can you hear the sound of hysteria?
The subliminal mind **** America.

Well maybe I'm the **** America.
I'm not a part of a redneck agenda.
Now everybody do the propaganda.
And sing along to the age of paranoia.

Don't want to be an American idiot.
One nation controlled by the media.
Information age of hysteria.
It's calling out to idiot America.

Welcome to a new kind of tension.
All across the alien nation.
Where everything isn't meant to be okay.
Television dreams of tomorrow.
We're not the ones who're meant to follow.
For that's enough to argue."

You really think that's ambitious? I don't care how many copies it sold. That in no way makes an album great

People still care for Pitchfork? This is Pitchfork's deal

A)The Hip-Hop, Pop, Mainstream decenters get mad at Pitchfork for making up a list of Indie and underground acts

B)Pitchfork needs to seem cool, and get some site views, so they'll add a gussied up list of mainstream appealing and indie appealung list.

KID A on the top shows you that they are just playing the feild, while fools look on and think their siding with them. Rich Dork Media = We need site views, what's the most mainstream and racially appealing artist we can put on this list, to seem "Cool" without seeming like we sold out to out Indie audience?

You really think that's ambitious? I don't care how many copies it sold. That in no way makes an album great

Your judging a whole album off of one song? LMAO Give me a break man.... Do you even know that their are two 5 part suites in the album?

I have to say to people, But i wouldn't trust anyone's list. Especially anyone who's list is made up of one genre only. People's music taste are subjective, and backwars of what's always said "If you don't like my music taste, blah blah..." If someone doesn't like your music, then so be it. Music unity is a bogus thoughtm keep hip-hop, rock, dance, and indie seperate. We don't need all genres clashing into one all pleasing hodge podge of crap, and Taylor Swift is videos with T-Pain.

I love Hip-Hop, I like Indie, I like Metal, I like Alternative. I like Electronica, heck I like all types of music. But music unity should be held more in the ears of the listener, and not a bunch of hacks trying to find the perfect blend of some cheesy rock and rap artist making some terrible album together, to at it's core, is to just try to intrude and take the almost easiest way to penetrate some other fan base.

It's why rapcore sucks, it's why Nu metal sucks, it's why a lot of stuff sucks. We need to get back to a time in music when it WAS UNITED! But everyone wasn't trying to piggy back, and sound the same, and your sound was respected no matter what genre you played.

Keep em seperated. And pitchfork list = worst yet.

How bout you not give a damn what I post. kthxImmortalica

Call me human, but considering I made the topic I tend to hold some sort of "I care what people post"-bias. I don't think you need to post anything with attitude....ever. So grow up and move on.

[QUOTE="C-Lee"] It's my favorite album of all time. An extremely ambitious, rock opera that sold 14 million copies. It fully deserves to be on this list.C-Lee

Being your favorite album of all time doesn't objectively make it one of the best albums of the 2000s. Do you listen to a lot of punk in general?

Way to answer my questions. Prove me otherwise with a link. I don't care if they have 2 5-part suites. That doesn't make it good

[QUOTE="C-Lee"][QUOTE="DivergeUnify"] That's one of the funniest things I've heard. I don't think anyone can objectively say American Idiot deserves to be called one of the best albums of the 2000sDivergeUnify

Really? You choose American Idiot out of all the songs on the album? Jesus of Suburbia and Homecoming are much better than that song.

Wow... That site is such a joke. Didn't care about the top albums of 2000. But there was not one Queen album in the top 100 albums of the 70's.

Blu_Falcon37
Hmm...maybe pitchfork isn't quite as bad as I once thought...I hate Queen so freaking much...:P

Didn't see your punk question there. #1 Green Day is not punk... #2 Before AI, they were EXTREMELY Close of breaking up, due to the fact that their previous album sold horribly. A political rock opera is very ambitious... especially coming from a declining group. It could either make you or break you. #3 "Prove me otherwise with a link" what?

Much better? You make it sound like it's a terrible song. How is it possible for such a great album( one of the best of this decade) to have a steaming, pos song?

The only good album I see on that list is Daft Punk's Discovery and even that one I think is placed a bit too high. As for me I love too many albums from this decade that it's too hard to choose.
