The rap albums on the thier list are pretty standard. With all the flack Pitchfork gets for bashing artists and for going against the grain you think it'd be different...

28. Kanye West- College Dropout
25. Madvillain- Madvillainy
18. Kanye West- Late Registration
13. Outkast- Stankonia
11. Ghostface- Supreme Clientele
5. Jay-Z- The Blueprint

I guess you could say stuff like Cam'Ron's Purple Haze is a little controversial with respect to some of the other rap albums they have behind it, but I'm a fan of Purple Haze so I don't really have a problem with it... Killa!

Really? You choose American Idiot out of all the songs on the album? Jesus of Suburbia and Homecoming are much better than that song.

DivergeUnify

Much better? You make it sound like it's a terrible song. How is it possible for such a great album( one of the best of this decade) to have a steaming, pos song?

How does he make it sound terrible? JOS and Homecoming are better songs.... AI is a solid song, but there are better on the album.

Didn't see your punk question there. #1 Green Day is not punk... #2 Before AI, they were EXTREMELY Close of breaking up, due to the fact that their previous album sold horribly. A political rock opera is very ambitious... especially coming from a declining group. It could either make you or break you. #3 "Prove me otherwise with a link" what?C-Lee

I'm fairly sure Green Day is categorized as a pop-punk band, which is a watered down genre between punk and pop

2) Having line-up changes doesn't make it better. It makes what it is a better accomplishment given conditions, but not BETTER.

3) Show me songs that would sway my opinion

1.There is a HUGE difference between Pop-punk and punk(which is dead). 2. I dont know what your point is. 3. Listen to Jesus of Suburbia, Are we the Waiting?/Saint Jimmy, Letterbomb, Homecoming, Whatsername All INCREDIBLE lyrics and songs, expressing the albums theme, "Rage and Love"

Not really.

Every song on the album is great. No weak spots. AI is just his least favorite probably.

1) Pointless statement is pointless. I called Pop punk a watered down genre inbetween punk and pop.

2) Likewise, saying line-up changes makes the album better doesn't make much sense to me either.

3) Fine

How bout you not give a damn what I post. kthxaka_Static

Call me human, but considering I made the topic I tend to hold some sort of "I care what people post"-bias. I don't think you need to post anything with attitude....ever. So grow up and move on.

Not to stand by him or anything, but you did blatantly complain about what he said which is exactly what many other posters have said several times now. Perhaps the wording bothered you more, but the meaning is still there. You can't expect someone to list all of their favorite albums when an extremely weak, limited list like this is presented as opposition to their opinion. It's such subjective material that everyone would be posting huge lists.

You obviously need to re-read my statements, since you for some reason think I'm saying Blink 182 and Sum 41 are similar to The Sex Pistols. I don't listen to any of those bands

2) I don't think the fact that they suffered line-up changes makes the album any better

3) No I haven't, and don't think I have to. I've never listened to a full Hannah Montana, or Jonas Brothers album before to know they don't come anywhere near the top of 2000s

Sorry, but the best Pop punk band to ever have done it was Blink-182. I never even heard of Greenday before American Idiot, and that may be a bad statement, but I really still don't care for them since I find their music boring and flat at times. Th best thing I've heard form them was Jesus of Suburbia, and that's basically because of the length, and the sense of the ride that they give you. Sure I have them on my iPod, but i rather hear Blink any day.

And I'm glad Blink 182 is back, looking forward to that new album, even though with the sticking together of +44 and AVA it might sound bad.

After seeing this list and their top songs I can safely say pitchfork absolutely blows.

Anyways, heres 10 albums of this decade I really enjoyed (and I made a point of having no repeat artists in here):

1. Muse-Origin of Symmetry

2. Opeth-Blackwater Park

3. Machine Head-The Blackening

4. Maximum the Hormone-Buiki Kaesu

5. Daft Punk-Discovery

6. Sick of It All-Death to Tyrants

7. Incubus-Light Grenades

8. Katatonia-The Great Cold Distance

9. Avenged Sevenfold-Waking the Fallen

10. Soilwork-Natural Born Chaos

DazedDarkness

This is the only list I can get behind on here, eventhough I'd change Light Grenades with Morning View. Light Grenades was a little "Meh" for me.

Why thank you!

Blink 182 and Greenday were somewhat like brothers. Playing fast pop punk for the sake of a good time while making fun of themselves. Blink 182 broke up for a bit and green Day got all eye liner and political. Some people liked that. I'm personally more of a fan of their stuff before American Idiot though I would only listen to Dookie if I had to listen to a Green Day album. Oddly enough I enjoy reading the lyrics from Insomniac.

And I too am excited for Blink 182 which to me is the only pop punk band that knows how to make it work and thus has hundreds of other similar bands that try to emulate them. I just wish that side effect wouldn't happen cause they are too bland usually.

Oh the topic is about the best stuff from the 2000s. Maybe I'll pitch in a bit later. I'm going to have to think about it.

All alot of people here have to be way more open minded about music, it can't always be bands that you want. The list is very standard actually. The lack of Bjork's Vespertine int he top ten was a bit disappointing. Same with seeing some albums on their like The Strokes. But over all decent list.

Stadium Arcadium.

Probably the only album i purchased in the last decade that i concluded was worth every single penny of its sticker price.

Read the entire list, and whilst not perfect, the best ive seen. Come on Beck, Pulp, The Flaming Lips, Vampire Weekend, White Stripes twice and Radiohead 3 times. I doubt any of you could make a list this awesome. This list could make you think that the 00's were almost as good as the 90's,.

I don't really like pitchfork, so I have an unnatural hatred of anything they print; even if I agree with it. I'm just that dedicated to my loathing.

I would make my own list but I would seriously be sitting here for like 2 hours trying to make it perfect. No sirry, not gonna happen.

Both of you are wrong. You cant even compare Blink to Green Day anymore. Green Day actually grew up, and dont make sex and fart jokes when your freaking 37, and actually add variety in their music.

That's kind of the same way I feel. A lot of people look for a couple of their favorite albums, and if they're not on the list then Pitchfork automatically sucks. Then they go on a rant about how Pitchfork sucks, and make their own list which is actually even worse than Pitchfork's list...

No list is going to be perfect in anyone's mind, but people should not act like the Pitchfork list doesn't have some great music on it. At worst its a decent list. It's not bad at all.

Their list is ok, but here is mine:D

8. Aesop Rock- None Shall Pass

Film-Guy

I noticed that was the highest rap album on your list. It's a pretty good album but it wouldn't even be in my top 500 rap albums of the past decade:D. Aesop Rock's Labor Days is way better and that still wouldn't be in my top 100 most likely. That Madvillain album I recommended to you the other day ended up at #25 on their list, their highest ranked underground rap album which was pretty much expected. Cannibal Ox's The Cold Vein which I also recommended to you was #152 on the list. They didn't put Edan's Beauty and the Beat on their list which suprised me a little.

Also, Dr. Octagonecologyst and Aquemini which I mentioned to you were ranked #71 and #50 on their Top 100 Albums of the 90's list.

Actually Blink's self titled release is a departure from fart jokes and such. Also both bands were changing their sounds as time went by except it was far more apparent when Green Day did it on American Idiot. Sorry if this thread is a little too old.

[QUOTE="DivergeUnify"] Being your favorite album of all time doesn't objectively make it one of the best albums of the 2000s. Do you listen to a lot of punk in general?

[insert crappy lyrics here]

You really think that's ambitious? I don't care how many copies it sold. That in no way makes an album great

DivergeUnify

Your judging a whole album off of one song? LMAO Give me a break man.... Do you even know that their are two 5 part suites in the album?

Way to answer my questions. Prove me otherwise with a link. I don't care if they have 2 5-part suites. That doesn't make it good

give it a break man, why do you have to get so pissy if someone praises a band you don't like?

You obviously haven't listened to their untitled album.
