I dont know if many of you remember the mini short before Toy Story 3. But it was something that really made me upset. So basically, the short is called Day and Night, and the short was about expressing yourself. There is nothing wrong with that, but then it seems the short hints at sex and homosexuality. This post isnt targeting gay rights, but it is more about how inappropriate it was to be talking about sex and sexual freedomin a kids movie. ESPECIALLY in the manner that they did it. I mean, why the heck are they talking about SEX when the movie base is 5-7 years old, especially in a way that has certain elements of propaganda.

http://www.slashfilm.com/2010/05/20/exclusive-clip-pixars-day-nightday-night/

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ck8b35qf5PQ

I found it to be extremely inappropriate. I mean get a special on VH1 if you want to do a short on sexual experimentation and freedom, but take that crap out of kids movies.

Update: To point out what I saw and what some others on the site saw...

The blob breathing what it looks like he is humping the girl and then she yells out inappropriately.

The rainbow (some people said up the crotch, although I dont understand what that means, maybe you all do) which seemingly prompts the other blob gets happy like a drunken sailer who's seen a hot babe.

The two genderless blobs hug each other at the end, too; but I'm pretty sure it's just supposed to show that they become friends, nothing sexual.

Indeed. This is the one and only moment you could point to saying anything about sexual undertones. That being said, it's such a small thing that almost all kids won't remember it. Also the short makes no mention of homosexuality.

WTF there was nothing inappropriate about Day and Night. The closest to being sexual is Day and Night checking out the girls on the beach and pool but really, that wasn't inappropriate much.

you mean like when he breathes his chest rises and lowers like a normal chest would and because he is lying on his stomach his breathing is rising and lowering him and it reminds you of humping? Honestly this sounds more like you seeing things that aren't there due to the fact that deep down it's exactly what you want to be doing. However you also want to remain pure and thus won't admit to yourself that you would rather be having sex. Because of this you see sex in everything around you, even in places where it's not.

He is just breating, because people tend to do that while they sleep, as it makes sleeping very difficult if they don't; the girl yawns/sighs, which is a sign of relaxation, because she is relaxing.

I watched a clip of it on youtube... (said it was copyright pixar and everything, so I believe it was legal to do so)
And there was a part in it, where they encounter the radio tower. And the tower talks about how people are afraid of new things, prefer to stay with the same ol' same ol.
Night and Day seem saddened by this, almost like they're about to part ways... then they both turn the same color. Almost like they realize they're both the same.

Doesn't seem like much of a stretch to see this part in the story as a reference to homosexuality...
I don't have a problem with it either, kids movies are supposed to teach kids good lessons about life. If they were really hinting at homosexuality, good for them.
Kids need to learn to be accepting at a young age, if it helps in any way... I don't see the harm, at all.
Even someone against homosexuality for religious reasons should be able to agree that discriminating against someone is a terrible thing to do.

What you've done, TC, is apply what you want to think to a general message of tolerance and acceptance. You took an innocent film and twisted it based on a couple of symbols to make yourself believe that the film is telling something more than there actually is. I was making myself look for anything that could be construed as sexual, and the only thing I saw was them oogling women at a pool, and well, cartoons from fifty years back have had their characters go bonkers over attractive women. And hinting at homosexuality because they showed a rainbow? Really? So, whenever you see a rainbow in the sky, do you automatically say to yourself, "The sky is gay Kids are NOT going to learn about sexual education or receive any awareness of homosexuality from this clip. The fact that people are even thinking this is laughable.

Movies are sometimes open to interpretation. I think this part is.
If someone wants to see it as a general message, they can.
I'm probably predispositioned to see it as a reference to homosexuality since I read the original post before watching the movie.

lol, way to dumb down my comment. The rainbow wasnt indicative of homoseluality in itself, the reaction of the other blob to the rainbow was. He was acting like those classic arousement animations in cartoons.

It seems as if you've added the beach part to your post after I had read it.

So, it seems as if you have a problem with... something i didn't really see in the movie.

This says more about TC than the mini movie. If you see that as sexual, then there's something wrong with you, not the movie.

Read the OP, see what others have just said (including in the link), and then comment. Dont accuse me of anything.

I have, but I still do not see anything "Inappropriate" about it at all. You're trying to make us see something that just isn't there.

[QUOTE="gaming25"] You know what I mean. Its a kids movie.

It's a family movie, technically. Pixar includes humor for both the young and old. And also, if this short was really inappropriate, then I'm sure the MPAA would have flagged it way before it hit YouTube and got lambasted by misunderstood folk in the comments section.

lol, way to dumb down my comment. The rainbow wasnt indicative of homoseluality in itself, the reaction of the other blob to the rainbow was. He was acting like those classic arousement animations in cartoons.gaming25
Uh, either that or he just thought rainbows are pretty. Many young children do.

Again, what is up with this "you" nonsense. Others saw exactly what I have saw. They were debating the issue of it being appropriate (on both sides) without saying "dude you are making this up" as you all have been saying.
