[QUOTE="elblanquito_81"]

[QUOTE="Tjeremiah1988"] I dont remember everything but this is only addressed to the first Transformers where the character started to talk in slang/street and started to dance with hip-hop in bg and was the first to die. I think thats why many felt that way, it was little, and didnt make any news headlines as this one has. Thats all. Tjeremiah1988

I'm not directing this at you, I'm just making a general comment here: if people see a robot character that talks in slang, is the first to die, and assume it's because it's "black", then they have some serious issues.

somewhat, but it wasnt just slang, it was street slang and they had gold grills . I mean, this is what ignorant people label black people to be like. Besides, the N word takes the cake.

Hmm...I think maybe the characters were probably just done in poor taste and nothing more. I haven't seen this new one yet, so I can't comment on said use of the N word. Now, if they had a couple of robots with a Spanish accent, wearing bandanas, and going around saying stuff like, "Orale homes, check out these hydraulics I just put in.", then maybe you could have a case that Bay is a racist. But from what I've seen/heard, it just seems like people jumping to conclusions.

The Spanish thing wouldn't have gotten any attention because in real life you can only be racist agains Black people remember?

I didn't find it all the bad.

Hell I didn't really think of them as being black. Just because they have a funny voice and they bicker alot dosen't mean they're black. :?

I havent seen it but I heard there was use of the N word and reading the article they talked in STREET slang and had GOLD teeth. Something the media likes to label as Black people doings.

The N word must of slipped by me cause I don't recall hearing it.

I remember gold teeth but only reason they showed it is because someone punched him. I thought gold teeth is because of car he was. When I saw the film I didn't picture being black. What I pictured them is two immature twin brothers who argued and bickered alot. I pictured that because that's how me and my brothers were. Didn't think they were that bad.

I remember those guys like that, but I don't remember hearing the N word either, mainly because I hated those characters.

I also heard a few complaints about there being sexist stereotypes in the film. I dont want to spoil anything...but the tentacle scene at the dorm was really weird. 0_o

In most cases like this, the only people who notice are people who are closet racists themselves or are oversensetive to anything that even appears to relate to race. But in this case they do seem to be portray a stereotype Though it's nothing I'd get my pants in a naught over.

well you have to admit that it is racist and they knew it would cause controversy. You have people talking slang, gold teeth, what the media and ignorant people call "acting black." They figured they can spin it somehow after the drama (didnt get news though) that the first Transformer that died in the first movie was black...Tjeremiah1988
No, it's not racist. They're robots who got their personality from the internet. That's it.

Yup. Those characters represented the stereotypical African-American gangsta, and if I were black I'd be pissed.

Why? Like you said it's not representing African Americans in general, but the "gangsters". So what's there to get upset about?

I thought the first movie was filled with stereotypes too if you sit there and think about it. Remember the Mexican soldier who would refuse to not speak Spanish and the customer service representative who was the typical Indian?

Yeah they were stereotypical characters.

I don't think Bay is racist or hollywood. Its the "common" stereotypical belief that urban Black people act like that. And this was simply a case of those people regurgatating what they've been told and society has beaten into their minds.

It sure as hell is racist but I don't think they are racist. Its along the lines of hate the sin, not the sinner. Its what society and mainstream media have perputuated to the public as being "black" along with all the other stereotypes for the various different races, ethnicities, and classes.

I wish they hadn't of done it and while they were funny there are ways to achieve humor without having to continue to present these stereotypical images of a certain people. And please don't try to explain it away as part of the lore or plot in that they "learned it from the internet" because why couldn't they learn about W.E.B. Dubois or Fredrick Dougless? Fact is Bay had this image in his head and in an effort for comic relief relied on it to get laughs.

Its not a matter of "looking hard for racism" racism is pretty easy to spot and in 2009 people would like to be represented in manners other than their stereotypical ones.

I agree with this except for the bolded. I'm amazed that they actually put these charactors in it. They could have just made them different charactors, or you know, not robots which for some reason have ape- like features, act stoned, speak ebonics and are illiterate.

Admit it they WERE sterotypical. They even used the N word for crying out loud!

You cannot deny that their was some minor racial stereotyping in that film for comedic affect in regards to the two red and green robots.

Those two robots were by far the worst characters in the movie. I was happy when one of them was killed but then... no he wasn't.

If you think about it, racism is in every single movie (even Snow White and the Seven Dwarves). And if you find the right movie, you can easily accuse it of racism because of one scene.

Apparently, society has already forgotten the mediocre mid to late nineties when the majority of white kids at any given school would wear baggy pants, FUBU, Phatfarm, put "dubs" on their cars, and attempt to put gold in their "Grill".

For all we know, they were mocking the stereotypical whiteman's approach to african american culture.

I really think people dont know what racism is. Racism is hating another race for no reason other than they are another race. I dont see any of that in this film. Nice way to over react though.

I wouldn't call it racism, but major stereotyping....yeah i think that's why people are pissed
