He doesn't know what gender he is. Male? Female? All he can do is "Identify" as one. The school doesn't want men running for Homecoming queen, and vice versa. Besides, him applying doesn't mean he'll win... It's his "Dream" to apply to be a candidate for a chance to become homecoming queen? As such, "he" shouldn't be allowed to run for homecoming King, as that is reserved for, males. First he tells the DMV his gender is "Female". Now he's trying to tell the School his gender is "Male". He's going to have to decide eventually. As far as his "dream" of going to Homecoming and being elected Homecoming King, Perhaps he needs to dream of something bigger, and more realistic. Most kids dream of being firemen, astronaughts, doctors, etc. This "guy" only wants to be homecoming king? He's really shooting for the stars there.
Were the students paired automatically? Because I could see the problem there, as not every girl would be comfortable with being escorted by trans person and she would have full right to oppose it. But if not, then I don't see what's the problem is about. They state it's because of state law. State law regulates high-school dances there?

Again, LEGALLY, he is a girl. His drivers license has him listed as "Female". There is a state law prohibiting Females from applying for Homecoming King, and Males from Homecoming Queen. So it's not the school saying he cant, it's none of his peers saying he can't. It's because legally he's a "she", and "she" isn't allowed to be homecoming king. Seems like a stupid battle to face, simply to become a candidate eligible to be elected for homecoming king. this just screams "first world problems" to me. Yeah, its sad and it sucks...but its home coming man...mean while in many African countries (the continent im from) the punishment for being gay is either extensive jail time or death. So, i think he/she should consider her/him-self lucky to have been born in a western nation that's more accepting.
