My first pick would be Heroes, just without Tim Kring or anyone involved behind the scenes with the show. The first season was amazing, season 2 was ok, then it got really, really bad, like they had no idea where they were going. According to an interview by the AV ClubI guess I was right. Apparently they wrote nearly the episodes as a committee, only planned 3-4 episodes ahead and Tim Kring just told the writers to "keep going". No wonder it was so convoluted. He also doesn't read, watch TV, movies, or go out.
Anyway, I think they could make it really awesome by rebooting the series from the very beginning, but with most of the same actors (none of them except Zachary Quinto moved on to anything decent right?), except this time the story is more tight and takes less episodes (maybe 16) and the finale ends up in an epic super-powered fight between Sylar and Peter, resulting in Sylar being defeated/killed, but Peter being severely weakened.
Another idea to stop Hiro having to be nerfed and going like "Hey I can just go back in time, kill this guy's mother and we're done" is havingHiro be in full control of his powers, become a version of future Hiro, but then become increasingly detached from the relatively trivial present and become more of something like a Watcher type character or, better put, Dr. Manhattan. Then he would be badass and not spoiling every plot with insta-fixes.
