great fight. carwin blew out his gas tank. lesnar was just able to walk right into mount. cant wait for the rematch hopefully after the velasquez fight
Carwin should have been able to finish him in the first round, but he wore himself out punching. I swear, Brock's head is obviously made of iron. Don't know why I ever doubted him, the guy is a beast. I don't see anyone taking him out. At least not for a long time to come.
Naw...I don't know what to call this fight, The ref could of easily stopped the match if he wanted to, the only reason he didn't stop it because it was a main event fight... Brock came back in the 2nd round since carwin was gassed and choked him out.. though brock won, I semi feel he could of easily have lossed if the ref would of stopped the fight.. I feel if there was anyone else who wasn't in the main event the match would of been stopped.
Brock just took the biggest punches in the UFC and survived it for 5 minutes and still took him down at the end of the round, seriously who the **** has a chance against this guy!V4LENT1NESomeone with a gas tank and good TD defense/ground work. I think I know a guy. :)
I didn't watch it, but as long as Lesnar was actively defending himself the fight shouldn't be stopped.Naw...I don't know what to call this fight, The ref could of easily stopped the match if he wanted to, the only reason he didn't stop it because it was a main event fight... What last night proved is what an incredibly one-dimensional and weak fighter Brock actually is. Anybody who thinks a man who literally RUNS from a standup fight and defends himself by way of a fetal position could take on somebody like Fedor is clearly delusional. Brock got his ass handed to him and was down on the ground like a child being pummeled. There was no strategy at that point and given the types of blows he was taking it's clear the fight should have been stopped in round one.
I kept waiting for the ref to end the fight and clearly, Carwin expected the ref to TKO Brock, which is why he kept punching away. It's obvious at this point that Dana White and his staff are going to protect their former WWE superstar whenever possible, which is why a guy as untested as Brock has the belt to begin with. I've seen plenty of other UFC matches stopped for far less than the beating Brock took last night. I'm also certain that had the roles been reversed and Carwin was on the receiving end of such a flurry the ref would have stopped the fight but last night that ref seemed uninterested in intervening while Brock was down on the ground and doing very little to defend himself.
Something about last night's fight stinks and it's precisely this type of crap that has kept so many quality fighter out of the UFC; they understand that Dana wants a brand to sell more than a legitimate home for the sport and right now, Brock is clearly that brand. He attracts a certain fan base and their collective mentality is illustrated by those who actually think his 6-1 record means something against the likes of men like Fedor, Nogueria, etc.
Brock's entire skill set is rooted in his freakish size and nothing more; he beat Carwin by falling on top of him and applying a basic submission, which no decent grappler (Carwin is no submission expert) would have allowed. Again, we saw the man last night literally panicking; he was running away from Carwin's standup game and it was downright amusing. A man like Fedor would take Brock apart systematically; Fedor's standup game is better than Carwin's, he doesn't run out of gas, and on the ground the man is one of the best Sambo experts on earth.
Frankly, I don't think Brock won anything last night. He got lucky with the ref and Carwin gassed himself out and Brock laid on top of the guy, which is all he seems capable of doing.

Doesn't matter, one dimensional or not the man is made of steel. You can't deny how tough he is. The only way to see if he can beat Fedor is if they actually fought. A win is a win he took a beating that would knock most anyone else out.
Carwin got robbed!!!!
How was that not a first round TKO?!?! Any other organization would have stopped that fight. Another epic fail by UFC refs, do they do anything?

the ufc doesnt choose the refs, dana white would never choose to have steve mazzagatti to ref any fights on his card, but maz was there for ufc 116
You do realize the fight has passed and Carwin lost right?Carwin because we share the same first name.

Yep, he's just too big and fast and can take a punch. I think everyone knows he's not the smartest fighter but when you are Brock, you don't need to be.
I predicted either Carwin would get another early win or would gas and lose. I was right :) Was a gooooood UFC!

I think in the rematch Carwin shouldn't get himself so tired. That was probably his biggest mistake.[QUOTE="Grammaton-Cleric"]

I agree. Brock is tough as nails. That beating was really brutal but the guy stayed in a fought. I don't think even Fedor would've taken that sort of beating.Brock was actively defending himself. He didn't turn over to avoid the punches and he didn't go limp. He would throw a few himself and grab at Carwin's hands every now and then to keep himself in it. He was even able to kickCarwin off. I'm not really a Lesnar fan, but the ref got it right. The fight should not of been stopped, no way. Lesnar got the choke so easily because Carwin was breathing heavy. If it was a kimura or something it might have been a different story, but Carwin ran out of air quickly. As forBrock "running away" from Carwin... are you kidding? A guy that big catches you with an uppercut and then a knee and you're not going to stumble backwards? Don't be ridiculous. Brock tried to recover with a takedown but Carwin caught it. Brock showed he can take a real beating which won't make Velasquez very confident. Especially since now Brock will probably not take any risks and just take him straight down. Carwin was his biggest threat (literally) and it will probably stay that way up until their surely inevitable rematch... unless someone like Mir comes along again and catches a sneaky sub.
