[QUOTE="SPYDER0416"]Islam is predicated on a text that is supposed to be the perfect and unaltered word of god... moving forward would generally require that be abandoned. In Islam the tendency is going to be adherence to the Quran as much as possible, and it IS a fairly old document, written in a time that was... crazy and stupid.liberalization to some extent, mordernization can be allowed under the Quran. This cucumber business has no real justification in the Quran, its just some dumbass sheik trying exercise contro over peopleI think Islamic Clerics are fascinating just because unlike other religious leaders and political figures, they don't move forward with the times. No, they go WAY the f*** backwards.
While people like the Pope and Dalai Lama embrace societal change and cultural reforms and twitter to try and stay in, these guys are doing the opposite and urging people to do the stupidest things.
I don't want to insult another culture, and I'm all for Islam and people who believe in it, but the clerics who say things like that are idiots, and if they find p**** shaped foods to be a problem, then they spend WAY too much time thinking about d*** shapes.
In all fairness, its not like THE leader or main figurehead is saying this stuff, but its really dumb that people have to report this as news when its just some crazy guy trying to get all this to happen pretty much.

You called me a bigot and a "klansman" for saying something along those lines. What made you change your view? Did it finally dawn upon you that Islam is not an ethnicity?
Holy quote mining batman. Or should I say Klansman?[QUOTE="Frame_Dragger"][QUOTE="SPYDER0416"]

At the very least, there are some changes happening that don't necessarily break any of the more ambiguous rules in Islam, and these Sheik guys are just crazies no one has to listen to anyways.
The muslims I know tend to do just that, but just like any religion clerics and politians try to out-holy each other. Most muslims I've met don't try to be, or pretend to be perfect... never mind live exactly like Muhammed. It's one of the great fallacies of Islamophobia that because the Quran says something, that's what every Muslim is doing RIGHT NOW. A pal of my, Hahmed, became uncomfortable talking about the idea of contradictions in the Quran... so that respect for it never seems to go. That said, he prayed, he made his pilgramage, gave charity, etc... and his wife was a totally functional and indipendant person. He drank once or twice, and when I asked him about it he said that god was merciful, and he tried his best. I think this is how MOST religious people get on with life, but clerics? Priests?... well... they have to be uber-holy.Islam is [...] crazy and stupid.Frame_Dragger

And I assume men have to forgo foods that resemble a lady's front bum?

Islam doesn't work that way.I feel like it should be ok for them to not read into it so literally and stay stuck in the past.

Dude, even clerics and priests are good... you just need to steer away from those that make it to the news is all. Just look at Al-Albani or Avicenna. It's a way of life... not ****ing cucumbers. I should be clear, not ALL... not even most. I mean those who are trying to "out-pious" each other... it's there in every religion I can think of. If it makes you feel any better, truly... most people DO understand that this is NOT representative of Islam, or Muslims. Shіt is said, but most won't make the leap from a few nuts to 1.6 billion people. What is a courgette? I've never heard of it...The-ApostleIt's another word (usually UK/Ireland) for Zuchinni.
