I grew out of it, and now there is just so much that I dont feel like I can get caught up. On one hand I like that people really find joy in it and also forge real friendships. On the other hand this stuff can warp your brain, and I have seen people spyral out into weird places because of anime addiction.

Also I have no patience for anything over 60 episodes

I don't like anime with stupid caricature situations and strange emotions. I prefer dark, strange and serious storylines, but unfortunately there are many weird plots in anime.

I used to watch anime constantly.

I eventually reached a point though where I felt I'd seen pretty much everything it had to offer, so ended up growing pretty bored of it. So all of that considered, don't really watch anime anymore, but would of course be impossible to say I dislike it.

I personally love anime and consider myself a huge otaku. However, it's not for everyone and I can see where you're coming from.

I'd be curious to know, as "anime" is a pretty broad term, have there ever been any anime shows/movies you have liked or taken an interest in?

I'm 40 years old and never got into anime. The last Japanese cartoon I watched was vultron in the 1980's.

I really like Attack on Titan, but I have to admit, i cant stand how whiny the characters are. I get how they try to convey the horrors of war and loss, but every single character has to go through 25 minutes of a existential crisis before they can complete a simple task.

@soloserpent: There are many good, non-sexualized anime from previous decades. Grappler Baki, Duragon Buru, Duragon Buru Zet (Dragon Ball Z for English speakers), Duragon Buru Grand Tour, and Duragon Buru Zet Kai with Super, and the hope of a non-hyper sexualized Ghost in the Shell similar in spirit to Battle Angel Alita, good shows and good ideas.

Within the past month, I watched some Robotech. Robotech is a serious show of importance to the relationship that the West has with the East with regard to anime and manga because Robotech is a collection of shows that the West saw as a single anime that defended Western editing ability and Eastern pioneering brought together for a collaborative effort. Well done nippon and all other nations involved with the creation of Robotech! :-)

I don't hate anime. I enjoy a lot of it and watch it with my siblings during down time. Still, it has some problems.

- loli/shota:"It's not pedophilia they're 1000 years old!" Divide 1000 by 100 to get their true age, 10. I don't need to expand on why this is gross. Especially when it makes its way into normal anime or anime that I like. For example, I was watching the Higurashi anime which was great at first. It went downhill when they shoehorned the doctor talking about marrying the young girl. Like come on, it was going so well until you decided to be disgusting and pander to that crowd. This isn't a problem for only men though, hence shota.

- Ecchi/fanservice/harem/pandering: I actually wouldn't have a problem with this, if they kept it out of normal anime. They shoehorn all those things in just to pander to different demographics all at once, but it alienates a lot of people. Like a dark fantasy anime with a lot of gore, should not focus on harems, fan service, and lulz comedy. Pick a genre and stick to it!

- Age: they're either in middle school or high school most of the time, it's bizarre. Every once in a while you'll have one with 40 year old people. I'm just wondering that happened to the 20 year olds, the 30 year olds, or people over 50.

To be fair, I don't hate anime, I don't dislike it, but I don't like it anymore as well. It's just more or less neutral to me.

A few years ago I was obsessed with anime. I chose watching a series over reading the actual source material, either being it light novel or manga. Nowadays I'm actually more interested in manga since they are quick to read and more interesting and less annoying than an actual show. Plus; I really love the sidepanels of the authors themselves as well as their little sketchpages.

It's not the shows that have ruined it for me, or some of the tropes in them, it's just the community that destroyed it for me. Sadly the most vocal part of the anime fandom consists of elitists, annoying minors and creeps - especially towards women. I constantly got told that I'm "not a real anime fan" because I never cared to watch the popular series at the moment (back then those were Death Note, Higurashi, Elfen Lied and similar ones, I always teasingly called them "emo anime", since only a certain kind of people was really into them; edgy emo kiddies). Welp, sorry for liking more lighthearted shows I guess? And well, for the creeps; 25+ year old guys knew I was 12-16 back in the day and they still tried to hit on me in a very gross and sexual way.

I still occasionally watch a short series (12 episodes or less) once or twice a year, but due to work and other hobbies I just don't have the time for more. I can't focus on something that is over 50 episodes long, that's just way too long for me. And if I decide to watch something that long, I would rather watch a live action series instead. It just got more appeal to me nowadays.

I always thought it was silly. I didn't mind the old giant mech robot type anime but this Bubble Gum Rocket Pop Super Hype Girl crap is as sickening to me as to watch kittens drowning.

But why? Anime is such a varied medium, I feel like anyone who claim they hate it just simply haven't been exposed to the anime they would like; they probably saw one type of anime and assumed that it's indicative of the entire media. It's like saying you hate music or you hate books.
