Ridiculous.
If you aren't profiting on it there should be no problem whatsoever with using it.
This better not pass. There will be riots.
Wouldn't this mean half the people on youtube would go to jail?

Youtube would be pretty much dead.
The only thing allowed would be VEVO and blog videos.
Cue everyone saying "OH JUST EVIL CORPORATIONS CONTROLLING THE GOVERNMENT AS USUAL", right up until it inevitably dies.Cherokee_JackWell this is just too ridiculous to pass but that they even try it on the congress level says a lot of how powerful corporations have become (this are probably entertainment corporations imagine how oil corporations pull the strings for example) and I'm sure there are many other things where they achieve.
There is no way this would pass and even if it did, I'm sure the president would veto it. I don't think the supreme court would support this either.
Youtube = free advertisement
I understand that it's their copyright, but the content on youtube hardly affects their losses from piracy, in turn all it does is spread awarenees about a particular peice of media without their permission. Even if they block full streaming, they'd still lose billions in potential sales from bitorrent and conventional piracy. Stopping streaming wouldn't make a dent.
What if the offender is outside the U.S.?chrisrooR
Then they can't do jack s***.
But for those of us in the US, this is an incredibly stupid bill.
What if the offender is outside the U.S.?chrisrooRthis is why any internet based law is just plain idiotic. The internet isn't a country, but i guess old farts don't get that. Every human being has access to it, so laws based around it are tough to work with.
I don't see this passing.Travo_basic
It will pass, just like the moronic DMCA, the Pro IP act, ACTA, and every other attempt to turn the internet into a police state.

I've always thought the protection of intellectual property to be idiotic as well. :roll:I've always thought the protection of intellectual property to be idiotic as well.[QUOTE="DroidPhysX"][QUOTE="QuistisTrepe_"]

True to form, you're one-dimensional as always.
What does that irrelevant statement have to do with my post? :?i love how these 50+ year old, fat, pasty bureaucrats who dont even know how to operate a computer think they should be the ones to control the internet.
I also "love" how our government is going to be acting even more on the behalf of giant conglomerate corporations at the people's expense.
Google and Microsoft would lose a ton of revenue from this, so they're definitely going to be going up against this. Google + Microsoft teamup is just as potent as whatever telecom companies that pushed for this legislation.
How is this urgent? This shouldn't even be urgent to Congress what with the debt ceiling vote they have to decide on.
It could make the street fighter livestreams I watch illegal :( Just when SFIII 3rd Strike is about to be released :( Thus, it's imperative the bill is haltedHow is this urgent? This shouldn't even be urgent to Congress what with the debt ceiling vote they have to decide on.

Well, I suppose it would be more interesting. At least it could give my roommate more respect for being the #1 Dan player in Canada. :P But other than that, it would be sad times indeed :(How is this urgent?
