shocked to see the big government advocates against this, this would put even more power in fewer peoples hands, how could this possibly be a bad thing in your view.

I'm not sure who you're referring to, but I think rather few people would advocate removing representation from constituents through the formation of a more powerful elite group of Congressional members.

True. And I think most members of Congress would oppose this too.

This has to be a joke right? Where is the link to the Onion video that goes along with this article?

Sounds like a horrible idea that would in turn put the US in an even deeper hole

Just get capcom to fix it :P

Personally I think a Turbo edition of Congress would be better right now.

That would defeat the entire purpose of the legislature branch to begin with..

[QUOTE="majoras_wrath"]No. No no no no no. That is the single worst idea I've ever heard. The constitution balances our powers nicely. Last thing we need is an oligarchy with special powers.

You put it perfectly.

Great, so now 12 people get positions of ridiculous power, and the best part is that elections stop having meaning because each party gets the same representation no matter what in what effectively becomes the new legislation branch. Also, because only a simple majority is needed, the Republicans have the upper hand thanks to the fact that their party is able to force every member to vote the same way whereas Democrats tend to be divided between more liberal and conservative members, meaning that in this "super congress" the Republicans would win every vote, every time. And like someone else said, if you're a rich lobby looking to get your way in the law books, all you need to do is bribe 7 people and you're done. This is ridiculous. If this actually gets implemented we NEED a revolt on our hands because that will actually ruin this country. Say goodbye to democracy and hello to oligarchy.

Isn't this the plot of Star Wars?

The US system of government has worked pretty well for 200 years (not a big fan, personally), the real problem lies with the fact that US politics has become so deeply polarised that no one is working for the common good and expects their agenda to be the one that gets through.

*reads article* It's not as bad as they're trying to make out. The only real difference is anything put forward by this committee is yes/no rather than a discussion process, so the only difference it makes is that if you partially disagree with one of their bills you vote no instead of trying to amend it.

And a super-ultra-mega-duper death ray keeping them all in check with the threat of annihilation.

Is this Super Congress set in the Pre-Crisis or Post-Crisis era? If it's Pre-Crisis, then there would be no stopping them....

(+1 if you get the reference)

I guess Congress is banking on the idea that anytime you add "Super" to the title of anything it automatically makes it better (See: Super Saiyan, Super Nintendo, Super Mario Etc. :P)
