WOOT!
the reason i dont really like Lincoln is cuz he dint really believe in equality. He just was afraid of a black revolt since there were so many by the 1860s. He also made the emancipation proclamation before the end of the war. Cocky if you ask me.
"How do we kill a giant Abraham Lincoln"
"A giant John Wilkes Booth"
*hopes someone says Ben Franklin*
I'm a big fan of the Lincoln.Â

I think its funny how people don't realize that when Lincoln was in office, no one liked him and now he is considered to be one of the best presidents. People wanted him to just give up on the war. Sounds like someone we all know.
....And they say history repeats itself....
Not to mention the Emancipation Proclamation didn't actually free any slaves, as it states "all persons held as slaves within any State or designated part of a State, the people whereof shall then be in rebellion against the United States, shall be then, thenceforward, and forever free."lmfaooo jefferson davis

Basically, only slaves in states that Lincoln had no control over were "freed", where as all the slaves in West Virginia, Delaware, etc. were kept enslaved. The only reason the thing was written was to deter England from entering the war on the side of the South, as England was morally opposed to slavery, and if the war had the appearance a moral crusade against slavery, then England would back out. The EP was a brilliant piece of political BS.  It did nothing but keep England out of the war.

If somebody said Andrew Jackson I would LOL.
Abe has some things going for him, but I think he's a bit overrated.

Lol...no offense, the man wasn't too bright. He lacked the understanding that would have made an effective president. His war against the Bank of the United States made things worse rather than better from an economic perspective, and just thinking about his "kitchen cabinet" makes LOL. FDR was on the right track with his Brain Trust. Furthermore, some people say that because Jackson didn't move to crush South Carolina in the nullification crisis, it emoldened them years later to be the first to secede from the Union, and therefore, this hardass's lack of force in this situation may be interpreted as a catalyst behind the civil war which would tear the nation apart and costs hundreds of thousands of lives. Of course, this is speculation, but nevertheless. As far as being badasses go, my vote would go to Teddy Roosevelt. Now that guy was crazy. In a good way.[QUOTE="spazzx625"]*hopes someone says Ben Franklin*

18th century - George Wahington, he didn't let the government make him a king. 19th century - Abraham Lincoln, he preserved the union. 20th century - Franklin Delano Roosevelt, he saved our bacon during the Depression. 21th century - who ever in elected in 2008.prettyedyWWII saved us, and the rest of the world, from the depression, NOT Roosevelt.

Right, reopening banks the New Deals (giving thousands of jobs to unemployed Americans with things likethe Civilian Conservation Corps) didn't do anything. Yes, the War brought jobs and helped our economy but you can't deny all the things Roosevelt did in his first term.Â
Please, spread you're BS somewhere else.

Cocky? No, it saved his ass. After stopping a few British ships from trading with the South, England was ready to go to war with the North. The EP kept them and also the French from joining the South.Â
Anyway, I think Abe Lincoln was the best president. Just the way he was and how he handled the war. He was willing to peacefully bring the defeated Southern states back into the Union without having to pay or anything. Sadly, some Southerners didn't see that. edit: I'm surprised so many people said George Washington. He was a good general and had good intentions, but was weak as president.
