[QUOTE="Engrish_Major"]Wow, why do people think vinyl albums sound worse than CDs or MP3s? Lots of uneducated peeps here...X4D

But why does vinyl sound better than CD? I have to say i'm very ignorant on that issue.

CDs are quite compressed compared to the master tapes because of the limited space available on CDs. SACDs addressed this, but never quite caught on. Many albums also succumbed to the Loudness Wars, resulting in high frequencies being clipped off in favor of volume. Vinyl albums are widely regarded to be the closest reproductions to the studio masters. See this interesting Wired article.

Vinyl records have the best sound, because they're analogue, while CD's and MP3's are digital.

CD's and other digital formats cut out parts of the sound wave being produced, however, they are much better quality then vinyls, and are much more convienent.

I prefer digital, but its nice spinning a vinyl every now and then.

Purely digital. It's the easiest and most adaptable way of dealing with music, and no one's going to convince me that vinyl or a CD is worth it in quality.

I'm talking music here what format do people prefer?

Personally I have a 3 tiered approach I get digital download for artist's I'm not sure about, not overly fussed about ect, Get CD's for most stuff I really want and Get vinyl for stuff I really love, of stuff that is OK but the packaging or the vinyl itself is impressive.

Love to hear what others do...

mattsnibbs

I prefer vinyl, for collecting albums I really enjoy.

Vinyl. Plain and simple: clean sound, clear quality.

[QUOTE="-starman-"]

CDs all the way, but i convert everything i buy to mp3 and play it on iTunes. i just like having the hard copy, for some reason.

i don't understand the appeal of vinyl, unless you're a DJ. the audio quality is worse, and they take a ton of room to store. if all my cds were records, i would need a whole room to store them. who needs that.

Engrish_Major

Wrong. Vinyl's sound better than CDs or MP3s in the majority of cases.

That's true provided you keep them in good condition.
