What are your favorites? Any kind of war, like ancient war, World War II, even sci-fi war I guess. I just got finished watching an incredibly under-appreciated movie, Letters from Iwo Jima and the question sprang to mind. For me I would have to say Saving Private Ryan, Speilberg's absolute best work.

It's a mini-series, but I still gotta say Band of Brothers, by far.

I liked Jarhead.

"WHY DID YOU JOIN MY BELOVED CORPS?!"

"SIR, I GOT LOST ON MY WAY TO COLLEGE, SIR!"

If George Lucas made a movie about Obi Wan going back in time witha time machine and killing Jar Jar Binks, I would pay money to go watch it.

Das Boot. I was fascinated with U-boats when I was younger, and that film does a marvellous job of demonstrating the futility of it all...

Three Kings. It's much more unique than other war films. Instead of being sad and mournful, it was irreverent and funny. Unfortunately it goes criminally unrecognized by the general public.

Agreed, fantastic film. The way it alternated between humourous and serious scenes was highly effective.

I'm glad you guys agree. I like how it broke down the view of the Gulf War as a "good" war, and showed us that war always causes unimaginable suffering. The torture scene where the Iraqi soldier interrogates Mark Walberg was incredibly well done.

You guys need to go back to some of the classics.

Zulu!

Great recreation of a small detachment of British (24 Foot from Wales mostly) soldiers fighting off a horde of zulus.

Waterloo.

While the story itself isn't that well told, this movie has some of the best battle scenes ever filmed. CGI be damned, nothing can beat a scene with 100,000 extras.

A Bridge Too Far

Apart from Gene Hackman's worst attempt at a Polish accent ever, great film!

Dark Blue World.

Czech film about Czechoslovakian pilots who made their way to England to fly for the RAF.

Blue Max.

A film about German pilots on the Western Front during WWI. Some great aerial footage.

Full Metal Jacket and to a lesser extent, The Inglorious Bastards.
