Waterworld

I never understood why are the audience being so hard on this movie. One of the biggest complaint I've heard is that each character in the movie has a different accent. But isn't it the same case with Star Wars? So, why would it not be acceptable in Waterworld?

In Star Wars, not only are many of the characters not human at all (such as Yoda or C3PO), but most characters were born and raised on different planets ranging from across the galaxy. Obi-Wan Kenobi was born and raised on Coruscant while Anakin Skywalker was born and raised on Tatooine, so it's only natural that their accents sound differently.

As for Waterworld, everybody was raised within a similar society yet they produced a different accent regardless. Seems quite unrealistic to me--go to a major city like Boston or New York and pick out how many of the people born and raised in the city sound differently via accent.

I don't think it is one of the best movie ever made but it is certainly not one of the worst either

What I don't get is why PEOPLE HATE A MOVIE BASED ON ACCENTS? kid_who_grew_up

The accents were so bad that they killed any immersion the user may have had within the movie.

Imagine an epic scifi-action movie like iRobot. Now, imagine that everybody in the movie talked like a pirate. Wouldn't that... you know, seem strange to you?

Waterworld is seriously one of my favorites, right up there with the Mad Max movies (*high fives Lucas* :P).

It all boils down to personal opinion, either way. It may have not bothered you while watching, but it sure as hell bothered others while watching as well, especially the critics.

Even with the craptacular Thunderdome, it was still better than Waterworld. But I left it out on purpose. Mad Max and the Road Warrior are actually good movies...

Besides, anyone who saw Thunderdoe has never wanted to bang Tina Turner so bad....

Waterworld is a horrible turd of a movie, no matter how you slice it. Just bad. Bad acting, ridiculous plot. Even Dennis Hopper couldn't save this sinking turd.

It's not bad on a Sunday night, get a bite to eat, relex and enjoy a Scfi movie on the USA network.

i am watching this movie right now. it's not terrible, it's just meh.

edit for thought: i would compare it to a high quality movie on the sci-fi network.
