I've been stuck with a cold for over two weeks and I haven't been feeling better at all (my head still throbs and my nose is plugged all the time). Is it normal to have a cold over two weeks? Is there anything to do that can get rid of it? I've tried sleeping and hot baths for so long and it hasn't helped. Thanks. :(

This is the old German cure: you buy a bottle of white wine, pour it into a pot and mix it with sugar. You heat it up on the stove until right before boiling. Drink it all down. You'll get drunk and fall asleep. When you wake up you'll forget you ever had that cold.

Similar to this but quicker: Get a bottle of Wild Turkey, and bottoms up. You don't have to pass out, but you'll forget about that cold in no time...

Well, my method of getting rid of a cold is running around the block a couple times, taking hot showers a lot more than usual, making sure I brush my teeth and rinse it with listerine three times a day (Yeah, it helps me. And no, I usually brush my teeth once a day...-_-), make sure I spit out whatever mucus I cough up, I spit frequently whenever my salilva feels more thicker or slimy than usual (I drink water to rinse my mouth than spit it all out), and sleep often. Drinking hot tea or coco helps too. I usually get over cold 3 to 4 days....

Or you could do none of that get over the cold in the same amount of time. :P

You alcoholic!

 It works though, the hot water and booze loosens things up and lets you sleep better.

Bourbon is a normal cure for sore, drippy throats. Never heard it mixed with water though. Seems like a waste of time. Just do a shot of bourbon and your throat will clear up for a time...then repeat.

Take antibiotics. If your doctor with his fancy "med school" degree tells you they only work for bacterial infections, tell him to mind his damn business.

Yeah, by doing none of that, it usually takes me an entire week or so to get over a cold.....:P

I got tired of the length of the colds one day and started experimenting til got into that routine. Scratchy throats are particularly what I hate about colds, and they last longer than my stuffy nose and fevers. Hot showers and hot tea/coco usually takes care of it for me two or three days.....

go online and look for herbal remedies, theres a lot of good ones that get you better in no time.

also taking things like garlic (its true) and eating fruit helps.

Go to the rent-a-doc. You might have something bacterial instead of viral. If so, you'll need antibiotics.

This may have already been said (I didn't bother reading the thread), but you can't get rid of a cold. It has to run its course. There are things you can do to make your symptoms more bearable, however.

I'd recommend a trip to the doctor myself, if there's been no sign of improvement in 2 weeks.

Whenever I get sick, I normally just drug myself up and sleep it out for a few days. It goes by much faster than trying just trying to do it all as if you're perfectly healthy (which can take up to a week, for me). About a year ago though, I was sick with several different illnesses for over a month. I eventually went to the doctor and they prescribed me something stronger so as to at least control the symptoms. That's pretty much what got me out of that horrible time period more than anything else: antibiotics.

Sudafed always does the trick for me. But I'm pretty much never sick anymore because I'm relatively healthy, so that's probably part of it. :P

Nope, been in both, a steam room will extract all of your mucus and clear your lungs, try it.

Well, if I knew where one was at, I wouldn't mind. How much does it cost to use?....

Nyquil at night of course and hot steamy showers to break up mucus so it can be dealt with however you see fit (spit down the drain or blow your nose).

Down a cup of tea. Obviously wait until it's cooled down a bit, but the warmth soothes your throat and opens your airwaves. The caffeine perks you up a bit too :)
