We live in a depressing world when it comes to music....

I listen to Classic Rock...I listen to a little modern Rock...I listen to Mexican Music...I listen to Blues...I listen to Soul...I listen to Classical...I even listen to a few Electronica songs...

I am mainly focusing on Classic Rock and Classical here:

I see people all the time listening to the modern music out today. I have friends that love Classic Rock. This is what I find saddening:

I know people that if I say I listen to Classic Rock or Classical music, their reply is 

"It's stupid to listen to music from before you were born" 

I find it depressing to hear my sister say "John Frusciante is the greatest guitarist ever", and I will reply with:

"Ron Hudson (A local classical and spanish guitarist) is more difficult to play" and she replies with:

"No he isn't. If he is, then he would be selling millions of albums"....This is my facial expression: :|

What I find the most terrible is when music, one of the greatest inventions EVER is judged on popularity and release date, rather than quality

You guys probably don't know what I'm talking about anyway... 

Let them live out their depressing lives listening to talentless pop music. I'll always have Metallica and Deep Purple anyways, so i don't care. aaaaarrrrggggg

Listening to only a couple things is also depressing.

That is somewhat ignorant that people judge music by the date and popularity. But at the same time, everyone has a different opinion.arab_prince

I like anything that sounds good to me. I just can't understand why someone would deprive themselves of great music just because it came out before they were born. What kind of logic is that? Why would you want to miss out on more great music? Why would you not try learning more about who you are by limiting yourself to just a certain type of music. I really never understood that...

Listening to only a couple things is also depressing.

Some people just dont CARE about music as much as others. If they dont take it seriously, why argue about it and stew over it? In my experience, most of the people who respond this way to certain genres use music for very VERY limited purposes, so it makes sense for them to have that attitude. They will hopefully come around some day.

I don't judge it on release date and albums sold.  I judge it on whether or not I like it.  Which is usually a lot of things.  I don't listen to a lot of classical/spanish guitar though, because I get bored of it quickly.  I do like classical piano/symphonies, but unless the guitarist can carry an interesting (read: not necessarily complicated) melody, I get bored of acoustic albums quickly.  Which is why I always bring up Erik Mongrain, Justin King, and Andy McKee in classical guitar threads.crucifine
