I agree somewhat with your post, as I listened purely to music made before I was born for the first decade of my life, but you shouldn't count out all new music. There are quite a few amazing bands out there, most of which will never get the credit they deserve. Even in the past few years I have opened up myself to new genres that I previously thought I didn't like, only to discover that I did.
I don't think I will ever like rap though...as far as I'm concerned thats not music
I understand what you mean, but it's not the music...it's the cultures, I say. I listen to music, irrelevant of if I was born at the time of its creation or not :P. I mean, some of the music is so well developed that it has to be listened to. Take Beethoven and Mozart, for example. Some of their work is on a level transcended beyond limit.
Saying 'don't listen to music that was released before my birth' is like saying I shouldn't take any advice from people who developed their own styles of martial arts before I was born in this form. It's bogus....and saddening, almost.
