Off the top of my head, how about an Elder Scrolls movie? Prince of Persia proved Video Game movies can be at least somewhat entertaining. I think it could be interesting.

How about Sword of Truth movies?

We already have a crappy TV series; no need to waste money on a movie. >_> We need a Name of the Wind movie.

Jesus, people really dont know the meaning of the word epic. Stop mentioning movies like Inception or even Sci Fi movies. Those are not epic movies. The word epic has a meaning. Inception is a great movie, maybe one of the best movies ever, but its not an epic movie.

If you want an example of an epic movie that came out this year, that would be Robin Hood. I never saw it, so i dont know if its good or bad, but its an epic movie in terms of movie type.

[QUOTE="cd_rom"][QUOTE="sammyjenkis898"] No it's not. It doesn't even have a director.sammyjenkis898
I thought Jackson was directing.

Nope. At the moment, no one is signed on as a director. It doesn't help that the studio is doing terrible.

No one is signed on, but Jackson is supposed to be in talks to direct it.

The term epic, as recognized by the Academy and film schools, is determined by a high budget, music, cast, and plot. It has nothing to do with genre. The term itself, epic, does originate from the old poems like The Odyssey but it was prior to genres such as adventure or science fiction. An epic is not limited to a single genre and there are certainly science fiction epics. 2001: A Space Odyssey comes to mind.

Inception is actually the direct definition of an epic. It has a massive budget (at $160 million), a vast and well produced musical score (Hans Zimmer isn't cheap), an ensemble cast (DiCaprio, Murphy, Page, Caine, Watanabe, Hardy, etc), and a plot that took Nolan eight years to write.

Lord of the Rings is an epic. So are Lawrence of Arabia, Titanic, The Godfather, Gone with the Wind, Black Hawk Down, The Departed, The Lion King and... well I could keep going. But these films are defined as epic by, again, the Academy and film institution.

What's all this? I thought "epic" was just short for "I don't care to articulate how I feel." Example: "epic lulz"

Ha! Well the term is so loosely thrown around these days, figured I'd give some incentive to the technicality behind the terminology.
