They should let people have as many kids as they want, but then after some period of time has passed, make them pick which one they want to keep and get rid of the extras. That way you'd just keep the good ones. I bet children would be much better behaved as well.

Isn't two children per couple the "optimal" number in 'first world countries', and over population in most/all 'first world countries' not a problem?

edit: That's what I was told. I don't know much about it.

The "optimal" number for what? Maybe for the economy but maybe not for the planet. I think two kids is good but I'm just questioning how is this optimal value measured.

It's just from what I was told in some cIass I took a year or so ago. I don't know if I beleive it 100%. It just seemed pretty okay.

Its resoning for it in first world countries was because there's not usually a need to have a lot of kids to do things like farm work, and generally people live until adulthood, all there needs to be is enough kids to "replace" the last generation.

I don't know much on the subject though.
I'll edit my first post to reflect that (and that it was just for "most 'first world countries' ") because it's not so much my opinion but what stuff that was told to me.

How am I going to get people to pay for my retirement if I don't have plenty of kids, and other couples don't have plenty of kids?

I think developing and making readily available techniques/machines that produce less polution is a better option than mandating a policy which will reduce the population by 1/2 in a single generation.thegerg

You're saying we should build a murder tank to take out half of the population?

No. I don't feel that reducing the population of the next generation by 1/2 of this is necessary at all.

If the USA tried to make a law that said couples could only have one baby, I'm sure that people would rise up to rid of that law. If they don't, they're stupid. We don't need to prevent people from having multiple children, we need to prevent people that don't want kids from having kids.

Better yet the state takes away all children after the first born and puts them in work camps. Good for business which means good for YOU!
