Were you ever spanked?

Yes, on a regular basis. My parents' tools of choice were belts, fresh cut sticks and flyswats. Wasn't fun at the time, but it was effective. I grew up to be a respectful person who walks a straight line.

Yes since I was a smartass. My mom either spanked me with her hand or I got the belt and the latter freaking hurt. >.>

No. No one should ever hit their kids, I frown on ittotally- no excuses. Dont hit your kids.

I wasn't and I think I turned out fine. The only time I was ever hit by my parents I was 17 and I got into a heated argument with my dad, and we each came out the other side with black eyes, I broke my nose, and my dad lost 2 teeth and broke a finger. Not a moment in my life I'm particularily proud of...

A lot. And with a wooden spoon as well. Because of this violent act, I have fallen to a victim of the Freudian Excuse and lashed out at anyone who came close to me or tried to talk to me:(:(:(.

Yes. Good thing I learned my lesson quickly cause it was really rare for me to get spanked.

Yes. Don't think it really did any good. The prospect of future pain never kept me from causing mischief in the present. And it was always applied with so little regard to fairness or consistency.

Of course it depends on the kid. I've seen plenty of kids that got no discipline whatsoever and turned out to be intolerable monsters. You've just got to decide what's best for your own kids.

I'm not sure if a topic like this has been created before but I think it would make for an interesting discussion. Were you ever spanked and what are your thoughts on it?

Personally, I got spanked as a child and I hated it.

Mom would with the hand and belt, dad would kick me or punch me, sometimes would threaten the wire hanger, but never did use it. Most of it stopped after I turned 8, my mom sort of grew up and I never lived with my dad much after (they've never been together).

I am against it all, and not because I felt personally hurt, I just don't think that what it provides is worth the negative consequences that it has (statistically) on children.
