This is very sad news :(
We have the highest variation of unique species on the planet today than we've ever had before. This is to be expected. Furthermore the rise of humanity is beating out all of the species that are struggling to adapt.
Really is survival of the fittest out there.Â
Sad but that' s nature.

If by nature you mean primarily poaching and other destructive man-driven activities, then yeah.
People are kinda shrugging this off as some act of nature, but it's a sad story of being targeted for idiotic reasons (their horns cure cancer!). Luckily it seems that some of the governments involved are starting to take action against it and stop this idiotic trade.

So entire species being erradicated over the f'ing braindead idea their horns are magical is an ok and expected outcome?
For some reason I saw your topic title and read Wesbro Baptist Church Declared Extinct.Meinhard1If only

Nah, that's only Chinese people doing that, not humanity as a whole. :PSo entire species being erradicated over the f'ing braindead idea their horns are magical is an ok and expected outcome?

No it's quite idiotic, but it still stands that humanity is much higher up on the food chain and has the ability to wipe out other species as it so pleases. Not saying it is right to do so. Don't try to put words in my mouth.
That said, I'm not about to start some internet crusade about it as I can't really do anything about what people in other nations do. I myself don't go shooting up animals and drive them to extinction nor does my nation allow that to be done anymore and has a lot of laws to protect wildlife. Not much more I can do so I'm not going to get all up in arms about it.Â
It's sad, but what exactly can we do about it posting on an internet forum?
But the only reason they have become extinct is because of human interferenceI'm just gonna leave this here:

[QUOTE="gamerguru100"]But the only reason they have become extinct is because of human interference Did you even watch the video? The vast majority of species have gone extinct way before humans even existed. And species go extinct day by day regardless of human activity.I'm just gonna leave this here:

LMAOPeople let it go extinct because it's black. If it were a "Western White Rhino", then people would've save it.

In my biology class I had to give a persuasive speech on a topic of my choosing and I took species extinction once upon a time.
Basically, Earth was here long before we were and will be here long after we are gone. Â 99.99% of all life that has ever existed has gone extinct. Â This, however does not mean we shouldn't care when current species go extinct due to humans. Â I, for one, like it when more varied species exist. Â How cool would it have been to see a tasmanian tiger? Â Will our grandchildren's grandchildren be able to see a live bison or galopagos tortoises or cheatahs or tigers?
Â
The world will be very boring if all we have are cockroaches, cows, pigs, pigeons and squirrels.
[QUOTE="VaguelyTagged"]manipulated nature.ZevianderSpecies of life didn't go extinct before humanity came along?lmao who claimed that?

I appreciate George Carlin, but people take whatever the man says and act as though it's infallible. Â The man was just another guy with opinions, some of which he likely exaggerated for the sake of his show too.
Boo friggin hoo. It's a rhino, who gives a crap? Species go extinct all the time.
svenus97
What exactly do you care about?
[QUOTE="Aljosa23"]]lmao who claimed that?ZevianderBe nice if he had clarified and not been so vague.
Oh please, he was just pointing out that this was a completely manmade problem.
[QUOTE="TacticalDesire"]Oh please, he was just pointing out that this was a completely manmade problem.ZevianderAnd who's to say they wouldn't have gone extinct on their own? That's dumb logic. Let's just exterminate every single animal on the planet because "who's to say they wouldn't have gone extinct on their own?"Â
There are only an estimated 29,000 rhinos remaining worldwide. The animals are coveted in certain countries due to the false belief that their horns can cure or fend off cancer. Poachers have capitalized on this superstition and dehorned thousands of the animals in multiple countries even in national parks. It is a great shame that these animals are becoming extinct not because of their inability to adapt to a changes in the enviroment but because of the ignorance of yokels.

Though in all honesty I get what you mean but it still upsets me to have humans meddling with nature in ways like this.

Is our meddling not a result of evolution and the natural order of things? This really has little to do with meddling though, but ridiculously stupid people being stupid. If anything, our meddling has saved more species from extinction than what has been killed off.

We're effectively super predators in extremely large numbers. Typically in a predator/prey scenario the predator population will begin to diminish as they devour enough of their prey that their population can no longer sustain itself. Then the prey population increases and the cycle repeats. In this case, we're hunting not to sustain ourselves but to sell their horns on the black market. When the population is gone the poachers simply move on to the next animal. We're really in a pretty unique position. How we should react to that, I'm not sure, but denying that it's the case dangerous.
