My Mom dropped her phone into some water. The thing got soaked. What should we do besides letting it dry? Anything we can do to speed it up?

The healthy thing would be to let it dry over 5 days, i split water on my laptop and it worked after setting it upside down for a week. OH yeah, don't turn it on.

Turn a radiator on, take the phone apart (battery ect), put a towel on the radiator then put all the bits of the phone on the towel.

Try a hair dryer, but don't get it too close to the phone.

Put it in a small box with packets of silica sand but don't turn it on until it's completely dry.

Or put it in the dryer.

Give it a funeral.

Even if the phone itself survives the battery is almost assuredly dead. Pull it out and check the bottom (usually). There should be a white tab. If it is red then the battery is done for.

ya, do not turn it on. thats a bad combination; as it is right now, it is just a bit of plastic and metal with water on it. nothing can really happen from that. but as soon as you have an electric charge flowing through it, KABOOOOOOOM! No, not really, but it will likely fry it.

So, remove the battery, maybe take apart what you can (or dont), and let it drain and dry for a week. Good luck getting your warranty to cover it; my friend did the same thing, but on his phone there is a seal that changes color when wet so it was voided.

The only things you can really do to speed up the process are, put it in front of a fan or something, make sure there is no humidity where you put it. Make sure the battery is appart from the phone and any SIM cards/chips you have in the phone are taken out, your biggest enemies here are short circuiting and corrosion.

Check to see if it still works. Take your charger, stand in some water, turn the phone on, connect your charger and plug it into a socket and see what happens.

P.S what namebrand phone is it? Some handle water better than others, for example, Nokia and Motorola can usually stand being completely submerged. My girlfriend had her Motorola in a dishwasher and it worked fine. My friend jumped in a pool with his Nokia and swam for hours and it worked fine after letting them both dry out.

Take out the battery and place it on a printer or near a computer vent.

Turn it off, and put it in the freezer.
