As for me, i'm 20 and have yet to have a girlfriend. It doesn't help that I like getting to know girls a lot before considering them but by that time they've already put me in their friend zone... :cry:

I also have a tendency to like the girls that I really shouldn't like. eg. I once had a thing for my mate's girlfriend, and I still have a big thing for a long standing female friend who isn't single.

The friend zone may not necessarily be a bad thing. They trust you more than anything, and if you can get over the initial shock, a girl who has placed you in the friend zone may suddenly come to terms with things. It happened with me. I really liked this girl when I was 18, but she didn't want anything to do with me (even though I tried to get together with her). In the almost three years that followed, we became very close and became best friends. I dated other girls in that time period and she dated one other guy, going as far as to become engaged with him. Eventually though, things weren't really working out with them and she turned to the person who was always there for her, myself. A few weeks after my 21st birthday, we started dating, and 8 months into the relationship, things have gone good since. I completely agree with getting to know a girl before dating them. A year ago I went on a few dates with a girl I worked with. I didn't know too much about her but had fun working with her so I figured there was relationship potential. I soon found out that she was into drugs, and while she didn't do anything harder than pot, her friends all did. While I tried to ignore it for the month or so I was with her, needless to say we broke up and I look back to that time as completely wasted. It's much better to get to know someone, and I know I'm much happier now knowing that I'm with someone that I really do know and trust. I know what you mean about the not single thing----My girlfriend was engaged...Granted, this engagement happened when both were 18---young and stupid, but it definitelty still makes things hard. If things are meant to be they will happen, if not, just enjoy having a lot of excess money and free time.
