I have listened to some black metal and some death metal and I'm not really a fan of either.

I can't spot any differences so what are they?

Black metal conentrates on the mood and melodies (melodies is a vague term). Utlising high pitch vocals to achieve more evil music, contray to death metal which is trying to be aggressive and brutal.

Listen to "Dunkelheit" by Burzum, and then "Hammer Smashed Face" by Cannibal Corpse.

You will notice a difference.

they are like night and day (besides the long hair of course, its seemingly required)

Black metal is just awful.

Death metal is mostly generic and boring. However, I'd listen to it anyday over Black metal.

The vocal stylings are different. Black - shrieking Death - deep growls maybe occasional shrieks

Also, as you might know, some black metal bands wear make-up. This is called "corpse paint" and can be "kvlt" which means "cult"

They are, however, Equally high in suckage.

If you mean the bands, yes I agree.

If you mean the genres, however, I don't. Every genre has an alarming rate of suckage. You gotta find the right kind of energy you enjoy listening to.

Death metal is good occasionally, but gets repetitive.

Hahaha, in no way do you appreciate my input or the opinion I expressed. And I'll state whatever I want as fact, Eskimos were still utilising Woolly Mammoths as a form of transport up until the late 90's where they were all killed off by the mysterious 'stupid fever' Just so you know.

I could easily name 10 bands that play Death Metal that aren't repeatitive at all. That is, they don't play straight death metal but technical or progressive. >_>

At The Gates, melodic death.. but sure ain't repetetive.

On the other hand, only the crap metal bands are repetetive, same goes in any genre.

goe listen to some Gorgoroth, Mayhem, and Dimmu Borgir, that'll give you agood idea of what black metal is, then go listen to Chiildren of Bodom, Wintersun, Death, and Dark Tranquility, and you'll see how diferent the 2 sub genres are. and just for ****s and giggles if you want to see a fusion of the 2 (Blackened Death metal) you could check out Behemoth.

There's no difference...both are genres are equally ridiculous, in my opinion.

They both have their moments....

One other thing to note though, is that Black Metal is heavy on tremolo guitar picking.

Black metal : dimmu borgir , Immortal

Death metal : wecamewithbrokenteeth.

Black metal tends to be more symphonic.

Black Metal is pretty much has that dark atmosphere, and grim shriek like vocals, death metal vocals are gutteral, blast beats and all that, not really a fan of both genres, I prefer old school/traditional metal, NWOBHM, hard rock and thrash metal.
