This. This is exactly what I was thinking when I came into this thread to post. People do not realize that artists are employees who are forced to appease bosses and superiors. They create the music they are predicted to sale based on current and forecasted trends. It is a business, not a freeflowing means of expression.Too many artists are being restricted by their agencies and new artists are too eager to sign with them.

There are many many bands that don't. And this is nothing that has been the way for decades now.Too many artists are being restricted by their agencies and new artists are too eager to sign with them.

Music is doing fine. The radio has to appeal to everybody, hence everyone only sort of likes radio music. Like Applebees.Sajo7Applebees likes radio music?:o

The one thing that I don't like, however, is the current incarnation of digital downloads. If uncompressed FLAC files were more commonplace, then I wouldn't mind so much. But I'm not purchasing new music in ultra-compressed MP3 format.Engrish_MajorI guess. As long as V0 or 320k( or maybe even 440k WMA) were available, it would be perfect. Small files, 99% the same sound as a flac :P
Regarding their legal behavior and actions, I find them rather poor sports.
Concerning the adoption of new technology, they seem to be some form of Luddite industry, though after some years they may in fact be improving in this regard ever so slightly.
I very much enjoy music, however, I cannot say I having anything but contempt for the industry.
I think record companies that refuse to move with the times, going so much as trying to install draconian law, are what is wrong with the music industry. Not musicians playing genres you dislike.
I think that the popularity of rap and hip-hop has all but ruined it. Lady Gaga has also helped turn the industry to trash. There are still some real musicians out there.. but I rarely hear them on the radio, except for the local stations here in Austin that play local and less mainstream artists alot.
