All I know is that it is softer than metalcore, but harder than your average rock.
Even wikipedia is shockingly vague about bands who are "screamo".
The Used? Thursday? I'd say hard rock personally.

I said I dont know about screamo bands...that doesnt means I dont know what screamo is, because I do know and know it good. I just like to call it, a softer version of emo...ironically since the name suggests something stronger

and dont search info on wikipedia about this subjects...most of it its awfully wrong and its constantly edited and changed. I dont know about thursday, I knew about the used...but I forgot (havent heard anything from the used in 3 years and same for thursday) and hard rock...well its the closest thing you'll get to metal that is not metal...
