ive been listening to rock all my life. in my early teens, i got into nu metal like SOAD. from there it was metal bands like lamb of god (hence my username dispite not liking LoG or any band ive mentioned before in the post) and then moved further to the fringes of the genre.

all the bands use the same instruments: guitar, bass guitar, and drums. you could i (like many listeners of modern music) just really like those instruments because thats what ive been brought up on. so while i really like classical music and can appreciate grand compositions, ill always have a soft spot for metal.

I rarely listen to any bands that don't at the very least add keyboards to that formula, I just love classical music too much, and to me the best music in the world is the one that mixes metal's raw strenght with the sheer beauty of classical arrangements and instruments.

Yea I love that version myself. The guitars are a bit low though.

Possibly my favorite song ever. It's certainly up there, especially with the video.

Have you watched the actual movie? I did and it made the song more meaningful.

Yes, in fact it just came out on DVD for the first time ever like last week. Still haven't got to the store to pick it up though.

[QUOTE="LastResortCooki"][QUOTE="clembo1990"]Dragonforce. All metal is like this *flees*

Exact same for me. i thought metal was like metallica 9trash metal) and death metal, and i absolutely hated it (still do. only a few exceptions such as in flames's only for the weak and some of trivium's stuff.) however playing GH3 at some party, we were playing Through fire and flames and i realised how unbeleivably awesome the song was. Then i listened to other dragonforce songs and realised power metal was waaayy different (and miles better in my opinion) from all the usual metal.

That song is horrible

The irony about Nightwish is that the keyboardist (is that a word?) writes most of the lyrics and is the "lead" band member.

I'm not kidding:

Powerman 5000.

I heard "Tonight The Stars Revolt!" and at the time I thought it was awesome. From them, I foudn static-X, who i still like. Than my bro showed me System of a Down. Than all of a sudden, he showed me Children of Bodom and it bloomed from there.

AC/DC was the first band I ever really cared about. I was in 5th grade wearing AC/DC shirts and apparently the only kid who had heard of rocknroll or even had a opinion on music. So after AC/DC I gradually got into heavier music...

They're not stereotypical at all ... imo, at least ... :|

But whatever, lets take a different approach then:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UEHzmGgfXeM

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=adx_rt-KT1M

None of these bands use keyboards, and they're still perfect examples of what I was talking about, metal + cIassical = greatness. :P

Not sure, when I was little I was already listening to Judas Priest, Iron Maiden, Black Sabbath and such. Only until the beginning of highschool is when I started to become a Metalhead.

So you're dad's a metalhead too? :o

My dad listens to more classis stuff like Zeppelin, Sabbath, Maiden, Metallica, Priest etc. I've tried showing him some heavier stuff that isn't just clean vocals but he just doesn't understand:P

I have a similar situation, my dad listens to older stuff. I've tried to show him heavier stuff without clean vocals and he just looks at me and says "Whats with the machine gun drums and the yelling?", although I did get him to go to the Music as a Weapon tour so that's a start at least.

Lol, My dad was 20 when I was born (I'm 20 now), so my dad was in high school during the mid 80's. So my dad grew up listening too Iron Maiden, Metallica, Dio, Black Sabbath, Led Zeppelin, Judas Priest, Dokken, Kiss, Megadeath, Anthrax, Warrent, Skid Row, Poison, Scorpions, Slayer, Danzig, and anything else even remotely related to metal when it first came out. He was a metal head who was the expert in auto shop class. So of course, he grew me up listening to the same music he did. So I've been listening to this music before I could even walk or talk lol.....

Faith No More and Megadeth. I don't know if you could really qualify FNM as a full fledged metal band though. I don't really listen to any metal anymore except those two.

[QUOTE="GTA_dude"] Lol, My dad was 20 when I was born (I'm 20 now), so my dad was in high school during the mid 80's.

Your dad sounds awesome... thats unbelievable.

Faith No More and Megadeth. I don't know if you could really qualify FNM as a full fledged metal band though. I don't really listen to any metal anymore except those two.hillelslovak
I dont reall see Faith No More as a metal band...more as a progressive rock band....

The first metal bands I liked when I was a kid were Iron Maiden and Judas Priest. I bought Priest Live and Seventh Son of a Seventh Son.
