But you said they created it >_>
now you are grasping at straws, ok I said they created it, but they didnt, my mistake. You are missing the bigger point, they popularized it. you cant deny what they didAC/DC- the singer's voice is freakin annoying
dragonforce- lame, the guitarist are good thats about all i give them credit for, if only they played good music.
Nickelback- i don't even know if they are rated but they're on the radio, that rockstar song could be the worst song ive ever heard, and embarassment that these idiots are considered a rock band.
Nickleback for sure. Wikipidea already has it written down better then I can write it, with the reasons why it's not a good band but has been succesful anyway. Basically it's all about radio play.
If you want my opinion anyway, they are boring. So very, very boring.

They popularised it, but there were better bands doing the same things in the 80s IMO. Kurt was a great songwriter though I do admit, had a good ear for a hook
Post Back in Black AC/DC is pretty much the same song over and over...
The_AI
Even big AC/DC fans (like me) don't really like much post-Back in Black (I like some of For Those About to Rock and The Razor's Edge, also like Black Ice, but stuff like Fly on the Wall is trash).

But early Beatles were still excellent...A Hard Days Night for example is a pop masterpiece, and their early singles are still fantastic, regardless of how 'simple' they are. Complex =/= good
And who settled that the Beatles were the most overrated?>_>
Aye. The worst thing is hearing people who've year half of the white album chirp in during a music discussion about how the Beatles are the best band ever. Early Beatles was all about the simple, easy-going pop melodies...the same kind of pop melodies we hear these days. It's how they evolved as songwriters and how they worked with each other that made them so effective as time went on. I don't even enjoy a lot of music by the beatles, but I can appreciate their songwriting. However, yellow Submarine is unforgivable....[QUOTE="Lockedge"]

actually i like the beatles, what i don't like is people saying they're the greatest band ever only because it's the popular opinion and they don't want to seem uncool.zepman71

I'm not saying their early work isn't 'excellent' (songwriting takes skill, and the Beatles were skilled), I'm just saying their early stuff is limited in variation compared to their other work. Kind of like how fireworks shoot off into the sky and then explode, their early work was that initial arc. I don't expect to hear the Jonas Bros break into, say prog rock, for instance. Being good at one kind of sound is awesome and all, but it's nothing to be considered as one of the best bands of all time for. Had the Beatles stuck with songs like "Please Please Me", "Can't Buy Me Love" and "Love Me Do" for the entirety of their career, they'd still be considered a great band, but they wouldn't be as highly regarded. I love simple songs, it doesn't get much simpler than one of my favourite bands, "Low". I didn't really say anything bad about them there aside from the Yellow Submarine bit, and how annoyed I get when people who've heard a select few beatles songs scream from the top of a mountain that the Beatles are unquestionably the best band ever. That kind of thought process might just rub me the wrong way, however, as my old high-school's music teacher tended to preach that idea as fact to his students, and that just bred ignorance and a ridiculously skewed knowledge of music history.# 1 would have to be AC/DC. Others would be Rush, Metallica, Nickleback, Guns N Roses, U2, The Beach Boys...:P raven_squadB..b..but Brian WIlson! I've never heard anyone except the odd magazine or website claim the BEach Boys are great, or anything. It's exceptionally rare to hear anyone with a high opinion of them these days. :P But I suppose the Rolling Stone's top albums of all time list does hold some sway to some who aren't so eager to come to their own conclusions about that type of thing.

Jimmy Page is a widely overrated guitarist as well.

Probably Queensryche, that band is repulsive.
MocktheDead
 That had better not be related to my Opeth comment...:x
Queensryche is an absolutely godly band with the best singer in metal history: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SvMdNJ_dTGQ
That probably just means you don't like growling. I wouldn't exactly consider Amon Amarth popular enough to be over rated.Opeth, Amon Amarth, etc.

The Sex Pistols. Held up as the poster child of a whole movement of music but they were totally crap.
jahnerd
I couldn't agree more. As much as I enjoy their album from time to time, it really isn't as great as some made it out to be.
The Clash were definitely the best original punk band.

The Clash was an important band and I'd not say they are over rated. They're musics pretty meh to me, London Calling for example. Gang of Four's 'Entertainment!', released that same year, was much better and arguably more important as well
London Calling is my favorite Clash song.:|[

I was referring to the whole album, bar a few songs :P And I think you're underestimating GO4's influence on alot of bands, they were kind of Velvet Underground-ish in that the album wasn't massively popular, but everyone who heard it took it as an influence and then those influences passed down through whoever and whatever, I'm probably sounding like a big geek now

I'm not talking influences because they take time to develop. Whether one likes The Clash or not, though, they were influential. And they helped popularize punk. Which I think is the best thing to have occured in music. Definitely was needed.
