I think the answer is not about personal prefrence, but rock roots and longevity, plus influence on other band. So while i despise them and hate to say it I think its probably Metallica.mattykovaxSince when were you a mod? :o And I vote for Muse.

Yes there is dude:| You just need to actually LOOK for it rather then haveing it spoon fed to you through the radioWell firstly, this is not my generation. On subject though, there is NO music around now that can be compared to the old greats.

Bro, I never listen to anything mainstream nowadays as its all rubbish. I'll admit the underground has a few good bands, but nothing that can top the 60s and 70s.
[QUOTE="andyboiii"][QUOTE="DooDooPeePee"]neither have I :lol:Snakewisemanof course you wouldn't know who they are. you think green day are as close to the greatness of zeppelin... lol hahaha I just said that Green Day got big for our generation. Which they did. You dont have to be a ****.
There isn't a Led Zepplin of this generation.
There hasn't been a "Led Zepplin" since Nirvana back in the early nineties. Now, music is too diversified and numerous for one band to stand out like that.
A phenomenom with one band being everyone's favorite like the Beatles or Nirvana or Led Zepplin probably won't happen again because back then most people could only rely on MTV and the radio, now, anyone can go on the internet and research pretty much any band they want and they aren't at the mercy of the weaker mass communication system of yesterday.
Doesn't mean there isn't good music today, but if anything, I would go with Sigur Ros.
What timeframe is "our generation"?Rocky32189Yeah what are you talking about 1981-1989(y) 1989-2000?(Z) Gen Y or Gen X, or Z? Because If you are talking about Generation Y, I was born in 1989 and I remember a lot of 90's music fondly and often go back on what I could understand as a kid. I remember things like Jay-Z's uprising, The Boy Band Take over, Pac and Biggie dying, Spice Girls, and Pearl Jam very fondly. If your talking about Gen Z, these are the kids who in the future are gonna actually remember a lot of mainstream c(rap), and overly sexualized pop acts, and crap one hot wonders. I see my self as a 90's kid, early Internet generation, and I hated(and I can say hated, because nothing incredible is gonna come out in 2009 which is the last year of this decade) music in the 2000s.
Yeah I agree with what the guy with that Pikachu Avatar said. This Decade, this generation(Generation Y) hasn't really had a generation defining band like
Baby Boomers - The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, etc
Early Gen X, Late Boomers - Led Zepplin , whoever else popped up in that Generation... ACDC?
Late Gen X, Early Gen y - Nirvana, Pearl Jam, Jay-Z,RadioHead, NIN. who ever else.
Gen y and Gen Z - To much subjectivity due to the Net to really choose, but I also have to say since we didn't have MTV or the radio now days pushing the defining bands in our face, and since many of the what could be Beatles, Nirvanas, and Zepplins are basically not mainstream bands. Basically your left with these mainstream monstrocities like Daughtry, Nickle Back and Hinder.
But at the same time you have good main stream that isn't to fed in by the Lime Light like Cold Play.
Edit- And why I can say I really love some on the pop punk bands of the 2000s(namely late 90s early 00s ones like Blinj 182) I have to say that they wont be remembered sadly.
Also I forgot The Strokes but they aren't that widly known either.
Today's Led Zeppelin is The Mars Volta. Today's Beatles is Radiohead.... and... I can't really think of anyone else to compare with.

How the Hell can you compare Radiohead to The BEATLES!?!? Radiohead are NOTHING on the Beatles.

they sound like the beatles and are a good band from what i have heard, but music has to evolve with the times. i think that Radiohead's music is better than the Coral because it is their own sound and not very similar to the sound of a previously popular band.I don't think any band today is worthy of being mentioned in the same sentence as Led Zeppelin...
Having said that, if I was to choose... I'd probably say the Raconteurs.Their first album (Broken Boy Soldiers) sounds a lot like them.

its not who sounds like led zeppelin, its who's popularity makes them the equivilent for our time[QUOTE="-Misanthropic-"]its not who sounds like led zeppelin, its who's popularity makes them the equivilent for our timeI don't think any band today is worthy of being mentioned in the same sentence as Led Zeppelin...

nimatoad2000
Well thats different then... but then again, no band of today has sold anywhere close to 300 million albums.
I have taken an extreme liking to Trans-Siberian Orchetra, not sure if they count though cause they are a spin-off of Savatage, a pretty aged band... But Nightwish has a few REALLY good songs, too...
Grodus5
Yuk! Trans-Siberian Orchestra. I actually saw him in concert, Mark Wood with the electric violin.
He gave a free concert at a small Christian college. He's talented, but I really don't care for him.
