He should be.....Britain was at its height during that period
It may seem like a dumb question, but I want to know the diversity of nations in OT.
Also, I want to know if some people feel their country is doing somethings wrong...
sinarilias
I'm from Sweden.
I'm proud of myself, to a certain degree. When I accomplish something, and when I do something good. I can also be proud of other people whom I associate with or I feel I have things in common with. As for being proud of a state I did not even ask to be born in with a government I never asked for to be there - hell no! I'm no conformist or tool. Does that mean I am an antisocial creature who hate my neighbors and plot to kill them? Well, if you're a nationalist you might believe so, but you are wrong.
All you people talking about being proud of the heritage and history of your country - you obviously have no idea about it. Nationalism is a recent phenomenon. Your ancestors would turn around in the graves if they heard of it.

Which only further proves that nationalism sucks.
At its height? Oh, you mean this:
Jolly good, mate!

If I was British, I'd be proud of it - without it, Australia and the United States of America would probably be French. Or something.
Anyway, I'm Australian, and I guess I'm proud of it, even if we don't have much political influence in the world.

Are you insinuating that the USA and Australia are still british colonies? Oh yeah, those bloody french!
How much influence do you have on politics in Australia, if I may ask?
Are you insinuating that the USA and Australia are still british colonies? Oh yeah, those bloody french!

No, but they were (and Australia still kinda is - the Queen-appointed Governor General can still legally dismiss the Australian Government)...and we were talking about being proud of Britain's history.

History hasn't ended.
People have a right to bash the US, atleast moreso than other countries for not all countries are equal, thats a fact and sometimes it's wrong to be proud of your country if its doing bad things like killing hundreds of thousands with no reason, thats something Americans have to deal with. But will they?Jowell91
You might want to study the history of the UK...;)

Only if you tell me where I said you were proud of your country or it's history.;)
But you did infer the US is the only country with some less than desirable history......fair is fair.

Australia in the near future will have another election about wheteher to stray from the commonwealth (and thus, no queen) or to keep the traditional way. Last election (in '99 i think?) the queen was voted to stay but by mostly older people from the previous generations who still believed in their ways. The times have changed, and Australia will change for the better.USA and proud of it. Not everything is right but I believe anything can be fixed. Its obviously not a bad place since I trust in the US for protection. I appreciate a lot of things I'm able to do like sit in a chair and chat on online. I dont think anyone should NOT be proud of there country as a lot have to fight for it and I know a lot of people look past all the things that are available to them.
A goal in life for me would be to travel the would and see all that is appreciated.:)

Completely wrong, I did not infer it was the only country with less than desirable history, I said people have a right to bash it, atleast moreso than others, all countries have their problems, even now, but the US takes the biscut is what I was saying.
The bottom line is French, German, Brittish (maybe) Spanish, Italian, Sweedish and other western european countries have more right to be proud of their countries than Americans, it dosent matter how much bad history you bring up about them or how much you argue, that is the bottom line.

The problem with being proud of something such as a nation, a state, is the risk of adopting the idea that people from other countries are lesser beings who shouldn't have the same rights as yourself. Which is a bad idea, because when states go to war with each other, it's just the ruling clique of the victorious nation that benefits, not the nation as a whole. Which is evident in the pictures I posted two pages back.

You have to turn the option to see sig on in your preferences. Just go to the Welcome Newbie board.

Well, perhaps images are disabled in your web browser settings? I don't know really. If you can see other pictures on the web - just not signatures - then I have no idea really.

Completely wrong...no country has a right to be more proud of their country than another. Either everyone is allowed to be patriotic...or none are. There's many things done by those countries that were/are less than desirable. They have problems today as well.

Are you saying US citizens shouldnt be as proud of their country as others? If so I dont understand why. I was born here, I have a good family(and odd:P) and made friends and I wouldnt want it any other way. I learned that the past generations fought hard for this Country as well for others... now thats something to be proud of. Yes maybe you look at it now from whatever media source available and think of it as awful but my no means is it. Were at a time were change is needed iwith politics but this wasn't the first time and I must say the last time this happened the US grew largely. History here in the US is decided by the people.
I'm from the caribbean island Curacao and proud of it:

Nice pic.....rub it in why don't you.:P
Portugal, and I guess I am proud. It's pretty awesome being from the same country asCristiano Ronaldo. :)
And I find it funny that most Americans aren't proud of being from their country. And that most people on here don't know a lick about history, like the Brits saying Americans shouldn't be proud of their country because they've killed so many people. How ironic!

Im afraid that is meerly your opinion, it does now change mine. Theres more reason to be proud of being a European from any country than it is to be an American, because of what is going on in the modern world, that is fact.. We do have a greater right to be proud.
Bottom line.....
US and yeah I am pretty thankful to live here.leegar88
*Sigh* I guess I should give a reason why I should be proud. I have more freedomand a better quality of lifethan some people in a lot of different countries. I don't know where my ancestors originally came from so I will just guess and say Africa. Although I wish they could have immigrated here instead of the way they originally came I am still glad to be here.
