Chanukkah (or Hanukkah; either one is considered correct) is a Jewish holiday, sometimes known as the Festival of Light. Because it falls in December and involves presents - in some families, anyways - people always want to assume it is the Jewish equivalent of Christmas, which it is not. Actually Chanukkah is a rather small Jewish holiday; it is it not of the same significance to Jewish people as Christmas is to Christians. According to Jewish belief, after the destruction of the Temple of Jerusalem, there was enough consecrated olive oil to fuel the eternal flame for one day; miraculously, however, that amount of consecrated olive oil fueled the fire for eight days, which was the exact amount of time it took to prepare and consecrate more olive oil to provide more fuel.[QUOTE="finalstar2007"][QUOTE="jalexbrown"] I guess I should have pointed out that I don't really celebrate Christmas...the gifts listed above were more Chanukkah presents.jalexbrown

Chanukkah is also cited as a holiday for Jewish people to announce that they refuse to conform to gentile ways. That stems from the fact that a lady named Hannah and her five children were taken by the Greeks, who were trying to force people to conform to their ways of thinking. Hannah and her five children were all massacred by the Greeks due to their refusal to eat pork, which goes against kosher law. So part of Chanukkah is the celebration of the fact that the Jewish people should refuse to conform to gentile ways. Ironically some Jewish people will cite Chanukkah gift giving as a form of gentile conformity. Chanukkah gift giving is not a part of the tradition, and it is not done in Israel or most non-Christian nations that house a Jewish population. Chanukkah gift given is done in America and other Christianized countries due usually to the fact that gentiles happen to be giving gifts around the same time that Chanukkah occurs. Some very conservative Jews would frown severely on the idea of Chanukkah gift giving, but for the average, liberal Jew there is nothing wrong with it.That indeed was interesting to read, thanks for replying :)

I had an awesome Christmas! I got:
Non-Gaming Gifts:
-Nate-
Nothing. We don't really celebrate it. Christmas to me is a horrible day of TV, empty streets, and closed shops. Horrible and all.
Well so far I have gotten:
$250
Assassins Creed 2, Xbox 360
Crimson Sea 2, Ps2
Giants Citizen Kabuto, Ps2
FF7: Crisis Core, PSP
couple of manga magazines Shonen Jump for example
Obviously I still love my Playstation 2
and thats it so far if I remember right will probably be all I get too.
Sony Erricson C510
8 gb M2 card
Ferrero Rocher
A lump of Polyurethane Foam (my uncle is a joker ;) )
I think that is that.

Maybe you should ask the person that got that for him, rather than him. But its a valid question. Christ I cant wait for February.

Well usually someone makes a list so I just assumed that he put 1-3 on them and not 4 and 5. And yes, I cannot ****ing wait for Season 6![QUOTE="RadioGooGoo"][QUOTE="Ultrabeatdown55"]Why didn't you just go the distance and get LOST Seasons 1-5?Ultrabeatdown55

And yes, I cannot ****ing wait for Season 6!I have such high expectations that it cannot possible live up to it. I keep imagining that every episode will have some twist like Dexter's season finale. I hope CC and Damon are involved in ALL scriptwriting.
