I believe there is an afterlife.Well rotting in the ground is boring so hopefully you know heaven preferably
TaigaTiger
I believe that a person (i.e. their mind) ceases to exist when they die. The neural activity in their brain stops, and the mind which was once produced by this neural activity ceases to exist. At this point, it is unreversable and the person is gone...forever. There is no afterlife; no heaven, no hell. Just a mindless and inanimate body rotting away. We do not have spirits or souls; we are purely physical creatures. We did not exist before our conceptions in our mothers' wombs, and we will not exist when we die. It's simple and logical.
I believe there is an afterlife. I'd be perfectly cool with that too. Just believing that you'll rot in the ground and you will cease to exist is depressing. I used to think this was true as a younger teenager. I eventually grew out of that depressing ideology. My life is better believing what I want to believe not what seems the most logical. That's no fun at all :P[QUOTE="TaigaTiger"]

This.
I am, you are, and we are our brains. When that stops functioning we cease to exist forever. There is no afterlife, however if it makes you feel better to think there is, then by all means.
I'm personally ok with knowing that I'll be gone forever. Assuming I'll die of old age, my mind will probably diteriate to the point where I won't even be able to develop the concept of not being around anymore let alone have a fear of it. Even if I do, I won the race to fertilize my mothers egg at conception, so many thousands of others could have been here in my place. How selfish would it be of me to expect anything more after I die, this life is enough.

i agree with this.
I believe that when you die you wil get the eternal tv test screen.
seriously if there was such a thing like heaven it would be seriously overcrouded by now (same as for ghosts lol how many would their be in my room if they would exist lol ) . but I guess storys like that help to comford mankind.
I just can't believe there is no form of afterlife. Consciousness seems way too complicated to just be given to us and then for it to go nowhere when we die.
Pirate700
Consciousness has been proven to be the result of neural activity in the frontal lobes of the brain. Damage to this area of the brain results in DIRECT alternation of a person's consciousness (i.e. their personality). This is irrefutable proof that consciousness is produced by the physical brain. Destroying the physical brain, destroys consciousness.
We actually do have a spirit/soul. Our brains waves and conciousness are electiric. They actually "exist". When we die there can be a perfectly scientific reasoning for some form of afterlife as the energy has to go somewhere.I believe that a person (i.e. their mind) ceases to exist when they die. Brain waves are produced by neural activity. When someone dies, their neural activity stops. How can the brain waves "continue to live on", if there is no neural activity to produce them?

I'm talking about the stored energy. There is electricity in the brain. That energy would likely be released upon death. Weather or not it contains any consciousness beyond that point, who knows.[QUOTE="BluRayHiDef"]

We don't know that it doesn't. You are basing your opinion off the little bit we know about the brain and consciousness. Two angels will approach you and ask you some questions. Based on how you answer, they'll show you where your next destination will be.

yes the energy goes somewhere. it gets converted into heat and disperses. that's the scientific reasoning.

You have no way of knowing that, as we don't know what conciousness is.[QUOTE="Michael0134567"]
I hope when I die,I am born again,but as a different person(and gender :P).
that sounded risque.. i like it !
Lol what? All of this is true. Just like before we were born, no existence.I believe that a person (i.e. their mind) ceases to exist when they die. Nothing. No, that doesn't mean I will be floating around in darkness for eternity.
It means that I won't exist, I won't feel boredom, I won't think, I won't suffer, laugh, regret or feel, I would be dead.

Pretty much what I think...but you said it 100% better lol.
I believe you are reborn one step closer to G-d maybe not on this planet or this universe but you'll be closer, it's like a travel and you move closer & closer to G-d. For each level your understanding of life, existence & G-d improves. Inbetween your host bodies there will be a small travel to your next host body and it will all be blue.
I believe there is a heaven and a hell, a temporary one that is. Until armageddon when everyone is reincarnated with glorified bodies (which my interpretation is that all of the bodies that have been decomposed and such will be put back together again. For the final confrontation, and then a new earth will arise in conjunction with heaven, a new garden of eden I supposse.
