[QUOTE="dgbiker1"]Right now I'm getting paid by my school through August while I finish my thesis. I'm interviewing for real jobs and it looks like I'll either be a human factors engineer for Kenworth or Microsoft, or a clinical engineer for a children's hospital (I was almost a forensic engineer, but turned down the offer). I'm also working on starting up my own business producing audio equipment.X360PS3AMD05What do those engineering jobs do exactly.........
Human Factors Engineer- Basically ergonomics and interfaces. You factor in psychological and physiological factors in designing product interfaces. For example, I'd be designing the dashboard layout in Kenworth trucks or the GUI on a Zune. (This is what I really want to do)
Clinical Engineer- An engineer in a hospital. You sit in on surgeries to setup and fix machines in case of emergencies, consult doctors/nurses on which devices to use or how to use them, set up the patient databases, etc... Some also work for the medical companies and train doctors on how to use their stuff and conduct field tests.
Forensic Engineer- Usually works for insurance companies or lawyers and figures out if a product was at fault in an accident. The job I was offered was with a firm that works with auto companies doing accident reconstructions to figure out if the car performed adequately. Other people look at electrical devices causing fires, machines maiming people, etc... I turned it down because I don't want to get involved with lawsuits and there is no designing involved whatsoever, you just reconstruct an accident and try to sell your story to a jury.
