We've all been there (maybe not). You're in conversation with someone and at the end they say, "I'll pray for you" or "you're in my prayers" or "God bless you".

How do you respond when someone God attacks you? Do you politely leave? Do you say something?

Those expressions have become figure of speeches for me. I'm not religious and still say them in a figurative manner.

I say thank you because even though I may not hold their beliefs a kindness is a kindness and should be responded to with gratefulness.

And shame on people in this thread who think too hard about it and don't respond the same way.

They would argue that the doctor was blessed by God.

Most of the time they do not even mention the doctor. They just say I thank god that I am alive. Either way, it pisses me off.

I either thank them or don't make a big deal out of it. I hate those atheists who make such a big deal out of anything Christians do. It's pretty funny.

Ya, to most the "I'll pray for you" comment is considered the "F*(& You" of Christianity. Kinda like the person is looking their nose down at you and saying "I'll pray for you" because you need it more than me. Well that aint right at all.

But there are some people that actually mean it and do care about what your going through, and a thoughtful prayer isn't altogether a bad thing

But if someone says that to you, you never really know in which form they are expressing it, no one can read minds but you can read body language and facial expressions and know if they are really sincere about it or if they are just being all high-and-mighty about it (the latter is not a Christian).

*I know this thread was meant for any "religious-types", I guess my comment is biased toward Christianity, that's how my opinions were formed.

I tell them that Zues demands more than just prayers, if they really want to make a difference they should make an offering of a portion of their next harvest.

It's not just me. There's no two ways around this. There is only one correct response to someone who says "bless you" and that's thank you. It's called common courtesy and it's a widely accepted practice in society. You should learn it. It helps greatly in life.

I don't think anyone here has slapped them in the face. You must understand that those who see religion and faith as detriments to society (like most of OT) would feel a little uncomfortable with these expressions.

I'm one of the ones that say "thank you" regardless but it isn't that easy for some people.
