"Pride" is a somewhat controversial topic, some feel it should be nurtured and kept strong in order to become a better, stronger person some think it is a trait of a small soul.

anyway... here are some quotes to get you going.

I don't like any sort of harsh criticism or even less - insult. In fact I think I even relish in the idea of beatingup a person for trying to insult me even if not directly ... as retribution for what i had to hear. Dragdar
I hope, for your sake, that you have the ability to back that line of thinking up...

yea pride is dangerous that way.Ofc it depends on the person saying it, way of saying it, social context. If I respect someone for example( because of skill knowledge or acomplishment) i am more likely to have less pride when dealing with that person and be more lenient..

I think you should probably be more worried about the capabilities of that person than anything else (with your way of thinking) You seem inclined to take a violent approach...with that comes the need to know just who you are ****ing with And looks aren't everything. My jiu-jitsu instructor was 135lbs (I am 205), and he could mop the floor with me. Equally pertinent is their state of mind and weapons they might be carrying

agreed, but going the violent route is the second in line, first comes a childish outburst of non-sensical insults( or some sort of retorics), if feel I have defeated the opponent here that is where it will stop. It's always much more fun when the enemy start to get physical first tho, because you're free from any ethical brakes.

They don't believe in Pride. If they experience it they consider it a delusional state.

Sure in a jiu-jitsu environment, in a real fight everything needs to be practical and straight forward, Krav-maga style.

Pride as a delusion, that totally blows my western mind. Come to think of it, pride and shame go hand in hand if you believe one is lie a trick of the mind, then so is the other. that's the tradeof p.s. yea 3ds is gonna be awesome

I practice some buddist techniques. One of the ones I practice is to be aware of myself in my environment. As most people are only aware of their environment.

It allows you to enjoy simple pleasures, and helps deal with chaos.

Here's an interesting article on how our culture percieves pride. http://www.newwest.net/main/article/the_power_of_pride_vice_or_virtue/ What do I have to do become aware of myself in the environment? is it like one of those techniques where you imagine yourself seeing yourself in third person, or trying to become aware of your first person perspective...

I only dislike pride if it's the pride that makes one an arrogant, haughty douchebag. That said, however, I value self-confidence and self-esteem more than pride.

Just be aware of what your doing. Let it occupy your thoughts. It's good if your enjoying one of your favorite pastimes or creature comfort.

Pride is great. If someone has accomplished something virtuous, the emotion of joy, and consequently pride, should be embraced, not shunned. Pride is the feeling and acknowledgment of accomplishment, to detest pride is to detest the two.

Pride of course has to be earned, if it's a false sense of pride, then it's just a lie, and could hardly be called pride at all.

Only a person who hates happiness and achievement would consider pride bad, either that or they are so insecure that they hate seeing other people enjoy their own success.

You basicaly summed up Aristotle's concept of pride as a virtue. He says that anyone who does not freely and fully embrace their acomplishments and who they are lacks the virtue of pride ie he is hidding what he truly is from the world and himself.

Pride can destroy you. I know some people who are in bondage to it. It can prevent you from fixing flaws in yourself, admitting when you are wrong and treating others the way they ought to be treated. For the most part, I see pride as a bad thing.

Small amounts are good. You have to have some degree of pride within yourself to have self confidence. However when your pride gets to levels where "I am better than you", or "I am the best" comes into play, that's unhealthy

When i was little i thought pride was sickening. When people were proud of things i thought that they thought they were so good, while i saw them do bad things all the time.

Now, i think pride is really good. Pride is a form of positivism. You see the good things in what you do. However you shouldn't lose sense of reality. The trick is to be realistically positive. Not more or less than that.
People need a bit of pride to keep them alive. Otherwise they commit suicide and stuff.

I can understand being proud of:

  • Your own accomplishments
  • Your kid's............
  • Your loved one's...........
  • A relative's..........
  • A friend's............

and so on but I really don't understand being proud of:

  • Your country
  • One (many) of your possessions
  • You religion

Concerning religion, I really find it awkward when I see 'If you're Christian and you're 100% proud of it, put this in your sig' considering Pride is one of Christianity's deadly sins. I'm not judging anybody, by the way. I just don't get it.

Have to disagree. While pride isn't essential it makes our lives better. It recharges your strengh making us more productive. Making it easier for hope to grow in our hearts. If you avoid something because its complex you'll be doing a lot of running in life and will never reach your full potential. Just don't let it consume you and you won't end up like Kanye embarissing girls on tv. Everything that rises must 1 day fall.

"For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world" - 1 John 2:16. Be proud in this one thing only: that you have been saved by the blood of Jesus Christ and have received the gift of God: eternal life.
