The fear of the LORD is to hate evil: pride, and arrogancy, and the evil way, and the froward mouth, do I hate - Proverbs 8:13. Only by pride cometh contention: but with the well advised is wisdom - Proverbs 13:10. In the mouth of the foolish is a rod of pride: but the lips of the wise shall preserve them - Proverbs 14:3. Pride goeth before destruction, and an haughty spirit before a fall - Proverbs 16:18. A man's pride shall bring him low: but honour shall uphold the humble in spirit - Proverbs 29:23.

These six things doth the LORD hate: yea, seven are an abomination unto him: a proud look, a lying tongue, and hands that shed innocent blood, a heart that deviseth wicked imaginations, feet that be swift in running to mischief, a false witness that speaketh lies, and he that soweth discord among brethren - Proverbs 6:16-19.

I can understand being proud of:

  • Your own accomplishments

Overlord93

Perhaps some religious people consider their devotion to their religion an accomplishment.

Perhaps. But I do not do what I do for my own glory; I do it for God's glory, and His glory alone.

Perhaps but that's a concept I don't quite grasp.

If it is an accomplishment that...well, its hard to sescribe, and I guess, (where it becomes rather based around opinion) that feeling pride over an accomplishment is fine, so long as it is an accomplishment worthy to be proud of. e.g. If say, in the realm of religion, you shouldn't be proud of going to church every week, or following your religious rituals, but if you go out of your way, to raise money, and you go help those in need, I see it fine to feel pride over doing that, even if it is part of your religious guidlines. But by feeling proud, I mean Feeling, not saying, not telling, and not using this as any reason for your own superiority or prosperity. All IMO of course

Pride can destroy you. I know some people who are in bondage to it. It can prevent you from fixing flaws in yourself, admitting when you are wrong and treating others the way they ought to be treated. For the most part, I see pride as a bad thing.

My sentiments exactly.
